Help Pls: BMW Extended Warranty Only Avail For Original Owner?

Hi, sorry if this is already discussed; I've google-searched and could not find definite answer re. eligibility for BMW extended warranty. Planning to buy 2011 BMW M3, non CPO, from Carmax.

1. Most people say BMW extended warranty is only available for original owner, or a CPO'ed BMW, meaning I would not qualify.
2. A few people say it's available as long as the car is still under original 4 year warranty, doesn't matter whether I am original owner or car is CPO'ed, meaning I would qualify.

Which one of the above is true please? TIA

Any particular reason you haven't contacted a BMW dealer? My understanding is that as long as the car is under original factory warranty, a CPO policy can be purchased. At one point (~2008 timeframe), there was a 2 year/24K mile warranty extension option available to original owners. Whether that is still offered, IDK. You might try asking your question in the dealer forum. Or, send a PM to one or more of the BF dealer sponsors.

Ended up getting the 2011 M3 Sedan w/ Competition, PDK, and Premium (?) package for 54k.
Unusually the car only has 5900 miles on odometer. It is spotless.

I paid for Carmax Extended Warranty 6 year/75k for $2000; basically a 4 year extension on the remaining 2 year factory warranty. Very happy with the deal, especially the miles on the car; essentially a new car.
