BMW 325i speedometer accuracy

The other day I was going 35 mph on my speedometer, but when I went through a speed camera I was only going 30. Is this a normal BMW thing? I heard it is. Am I right?

I was doing 110KPH in a 100 zone and I got a speeding ticket for 110. So mine's pretty accurate lol

inaccurate speedo

I drive a 07 335 coupe, have noticed the same thing, at 40 on my speedo, radar shows 37 mph. Every radar I go through I check, usuallly 3-4 mph off. I guess this helps when I think I'm 10mph over speed limit, actually only 6-7 mph over. Bummer, I thought I did 150 mph, maybe it was only 145. Keep on cruisin.

The Euro spec is that it cannot under read the speed and may be up to 10% high. The 5 BMW cars I've owned have had speedometers which ranged from 1% to 5% optimistic.

Back in the day, my 1975 BMW motorcycle read 125 at a true 100 - a 25% error which was sadly not uncommon.

All cars have a 3-5% correction on the speedometers. I think it's a US DOT thing.

My car is about 3mph off.

This correction can be coded off. The function is in the KOMBI module. You can code the analog dials and digital speedo to match or mix. I have my analog dial set to corrected and my digital set to actual.
