Should I buy this BMW?

I figured you guys would give me the best advice.

I have the opportunity to buy a 1997 BMW M3 for $1,000.

Here is the details:

Bad:
197k miles
Salvaged Title
Doesn't have a lot of service records

Good:
Very clean exterior and interior
Seen the CarFax. No red flags besides the salvaged title.

My question is...is the unknown worth the risk at $1,000? I would use it as a commuter car and probably put 1500-1800 miles a month on it. I would love to get 1-2 years of use out of it. But I know if one big repair is needed I'm SOL.

What do you guys think I should do?

Thanks for the reply.

any reason you say that? i'm only worried about the repairs. the CarFax shows:

Front Struts, Shocks and Wheel bearings replaced at 102k miles.
Serpentine Belt replaced at 146k miles

Can't find any other service records for the life of the 197k miles.

Don't want it to turn into a money pit.

What do you expect for 1k?
You're deluding yourself if you think you're not buying a shed.

Well his asking price was $3,000 and realizing he's not getting that...I said the "the only way I can see buying it from you is at $1,000 max". He has no other offers so he's considering mine.

Thanks for the article. That was perfect. The guy wouldn't sell for less than $1800 and it needed all 4 new tires at a minimum. Oh well.
