Did they have to replace the trunk? The one picture looks as if it needs paint.

Ouch!

They are repainting the trunk lid, to be honest, i dont know if they are doing it to be nice ( i had some small scratches) the guy working on my car was gone for the day by the time i got there. It was a bit of a surprise to me also. I am paying them to fix a ding in the pass door and some scratches on the bumper.

Ouch!

I have the center caps, i took them off for racing. The wheels get so hot the plastic softens and they fly out on the track. I just didn't put them in to take it to the body shop.
Next monday is the latest eta to get it back

Looks like a good job doing the work. My only concern is rattling or other annoying noises once they put it all back together. My one pet peeve, rattles!!

My last 7 was disassembled to a similar degree when it had a door/quarter panel hit at about 35-45 mph. Had some rattles to begin with but didn't come back with any more. The color-sanding job that these guys do, even at a BMW Certified, kind of sucks though. Once the glaze filler they apply wears off, I saw lots of swirl marks. Had body work done in the past and this has always been the case - these guys just do not know how to polish things up correctly when done. They offered to redo it when I brought it up but I didn't want to deal with more downtime. If I had owned the car rather than leased I'd either make sure they got it perfect, or hire a paint correction detailer and slap em with the bill. Space Gray is more forgiving than Jet Black so hopefully things work out better

so far they have really impressed me. Rattles and squeaks are my biggest concerns also. I won't know til I get it back, will stop by tomorrow, it was in the paint booth today, so it should look pretty far along tomorrow. I own this baby and plan to keep it, so I will be fanatical about getting it right. There is a lot to put back together. The rear seats, the rear shelf, the rear door, the headliner, the rear window, and most important the rear wood shelf!!!!

the issue is on the other side, It doesn't show on camera. its close, but far enough off that when I pointed it out to the shop, they didn't even attempt to argue. they took it back to the paint booth right away. said they will make it right.
They told me they could blend it in. I am not sure whether I want to et them do that. Anybody know if there are downsides to blending the paint in??

Mine had to be blended, and black is supposedly an easy color to match for repairs. All of the damage to mine was limited to the rear driver's side door and rear quarter - but they had to blend in the front driver's door, rear bumper, trunk. The paint color match came out fine overall, but the issue is that these bodyshops then have to colorsand each panel that they blend and they do a piss poor job of color sanding. Once all the glaze wears off in a few weeks after you pick the car up youre like ah **** look at all this swirling. This has been my experience with every repair I've had on my cars. Maybe you'll get lucky and this bodyshop will have a pro who knows how to use a rotary, and you won't have to hire a paint correct pro to even it out.

When I picked up my car there was a guy who had the same color as you on his M3, and had the bumper painted. It was way off to even my untrained eye, and had a greenish tint. He was pretty pissed off that they wasted his time by making him drive all the way out there, when they obviously knew it was off before they called him. Sometimes I think the bodyshops just want to see what they can get away with, and would rather try their luck with giving you back a partial match then re-try multiple paint sprays.

Ouch!

That is too bad. From the pictures you posted, it looked like everything was coming along nicely. Unfortunately, the paint does not match, but this can not be seen in the pictures that you posted. Luckily, the shop is not giving you a hard time and will resolve the issue for you. When all work has been completed to your satisfaction, please take your Seven outside, take pictures, and post them for all of us to see.

I am planning on showing up mon am when they open and try to get some pics in the paint booth with all the lights on. I was so upset when I saw the mismatch, I forgot to take up close pics that might have shown the mismatch.
it really hurt having to leave my car with them even longer. I have a race event scheduled in New Jersey on the 13/14th, now I am worried I won't make that and blow the money I sank. but I don't want to accept a bad paint job so that I can go racing

based on your repair pics: trunk, quarterpanel, front and rear right doors were repainted. which adjoining panels did you find the mismatch? you can paint the front right fender, that way the entire side of the car has the same color shade. however, if its really really off, then it would definitely show. as stated before, i oversee a bodyshop, blending is not a solution if the new paint is not the same shade as the rest of the car. the mismatch will still show however instead of being one panel to the other, you will end up with a panel that has 2 color shades either from dark to light or light to dark, just imagine a door panel which is lighter on one side and darker on the other.....that's what you'll get if you blend mismatched paints.

OMG, I'm so OCD I'd have a cow, and then I drop dead from a heart attack. Dude, this car in my opinion is an abortion. Post it on Autotrader, or take it to your dealership and get rid of it. It will NEVER be the same.

I can tell a non-factory paint job like it's no one's business. Even the best paint job's don't have the right orange peel, and the primer marks show through.

Just my 2c. Get rid of this car and get a new one. It's not worth the headaches you'll be faced with in the coming months, and years.

the problem stands out on the driver side, i did not take pics. the mismatch is the trunk and bumper with the driver's rear quarter panel. i could not detect a mismatch at the other end of the pain job (between the pass door & front fender)
