This brings back painful memories of a then-new Audi 200 Turbo I owned that was damaged by falling/flying glass on the NJ Turnpike. That car was Pearl White...very close to Mineral White. I ended up selling it after the car was repainted 3 times...all body panels finally matched beautifully, but the colour wasn't the original Pearl White.

Ouch!

You could turn a negative into a positive and use the situation as a reason to treat yourself to a brand new 2014 Seven. Whether or not you want a new RWS is another issue.

sounds like a serious case of paint mismatch. IMO they should have left the trunklid untouched and just blended the right side of the rear bumper with your new right side quarterpanel.

why dont you just paint the entire left side of the car too? that way all panels will match rather than risk repainting the right side again which might end up worse than the first????

I just read the whole thread since I posted one about damage to my car. Yours was body only I believe, mine involves the frame. Your estimate of $10K shocks me since mine is only $6K more. The body work will be more in mine, plus the wheel has been bent.

Actually, not only the frame issue on my car, but all the air bags on the right side deployed. That's at least $2K for me. Either your repairs were very expensive, or mine was very lowballed.

How did the diminished value issue worked out? I can get it in Texas, but apparently I can do that only after the car has been repaired. I need to file against the insurance company of the other driver.

The $10k was their estimate, I have not seen the actual yet. This was a BMW collision center, so I kinda expect they might be on the high side.

Dimished value, same rules in MD, have to wait til repairs are completed.

if they have to blend that means that the car is two different colors, if I ever try to fix any small scratches, what color do I use??

According to my agent (his company isn't paying), he said the diminished value check won't be above $1000. Is this a Texas thing, or is that what you've been told you'll get?

I found a guy who specializes in getting the diminished value. I have not heard of a $1000 limit, this is MD. I do not know a lot about this yet, still learning and exploring.

The $1000 was from my agent, not the adjuster. On Friday I called the central office person from the at fault insurance company, thinking he was a senior guy. He didn't know squat about diminished value, and deferred to their guy in the field that did the estimate on my car. I didn't call him on Friday since he may have wanted a decision from me that I'm not ready to give. The car estimate guy from my insurance company only does estimates, he defers to the adjuster in the central office for any financial stuff. Go figure.

I'm not going to get too deep into that at this point since I'm going to push for a 'totaled' declaration.

The guys at the body shop pointed me to the guy who works diminished value. Check with who did your work or the dealer, they may know someone who knows the ropes about diminished value in your area.

Finnaly got my car back!!!
Final cost $10600!
They repainted my other quater panel color is perfect!
They really stepped up. I was afraid they were going to point the finger at the previous body shop, but they never went there, they just said the would make it right. Very impressed!Click image for larger version

How has the repainted finish held up? How soon after you had the work done did you wash the car? I had some body damage to the Hood, Bumper cover and left fender. It was replaced at a BMW certfied center. The work looks great but it's now time to wash the car as the snow is melting and I hate a dirty car. Do you think a 10 day old finish is hard enough to be washed -- brushless and then not dried by hand but air dryed.

Just curious, how did the diminished value claim work out?

I waited about two weeks before getting my car washed, no problem. the paint seems to be holding up fine.
I paid $200 for a professional est on the diminished value, then found out that New Jersey (where the accident took place) has a law protecting the insurance companies. they did say that if I sold the car, they would consider the diminished value, so I wasted $200
oh well. The care really does look good.
