Crankshaft front seal replacement on N52

Hi,

The [front] crankshaft seal seems to be leaking on my '06 530i with 130K miles. After wiping everything clean, after couple of weeks of driving, I see oil on the front portion of the lower pan and on the bottom of the pan.

I don't believe the full flow body (oil filter housing) gasket is leaking. I've looked very closely with a flashlight. Everything above crank pulley is very dry.

Valve cover gasket is new and I am absolutely positive it's not leaking.

I also don't believe the lower pan gasket is contributing to this oil leak based on what I see on/around the pan gasket.

That leaves me with front main seal. Has anyone replaced front main seal on N52? Amazon and others sell a tools kit for around $130 (with shipping) to replace the seal and the seal is around $30. TIS states that we need to use loctite/glue after inserting the new seal. I am contemplating with DIY or give the car to dealer. Your thoughts please....

I replaced the Oil Filter Housing gasket and oil cooler gasket as a first step. Then I cleanup the entire area and have been keeping an eye. The leak/oil residue seems to have dramatically reduced.

If you know for sure the front main seal is leaking, there is a front main seal 'kit' available...

It doesn't seem to be that difficult other than having to remove the crank pulley. You will have enough room to work with after removing the electric fan.
