port install Sirius

I had Sirius activated at the port (option Z54) since I don't have the premium package. However, when I look at the Russian VIN decoder site, it still shows just "satellite radio preparation" and not that I have satellite radio enabled.

How will a dealer in the future know I purchased / have Sirius if they perform a software update to my vehicle? Am I guaranteed to still have Sirius after an update? Or will I have to show them the window sticker to prove that I do and then make them re-install after software updates? If that is the case, would they charge me to re-activate it every time?

Thanks!

I wouldn't worry about it. I don't think the VPC will add a code to your master build data, pretty sure thats locked by the factory.

Sirius just involves the activation using an FSC code tied to your VIN, once it's activated-it's activated, no worry about losing it in the future.

That is my only worry - if it was tied to my vin I would have thought it would become a part of my vehicle profile when I use a vin decoder lookup?

I do not think FSC codes modify your cars build profile post factory. You're fine.

if it's just a computer code change, why is it so expensive?
One local dealer wanted $500 to do it.

Because it's lame.

You do get a year of activation as part of the price.

I paid $200 for my FSC code and coded it myself.

How did you get it coded yourself?

I bought an fsc code, had an e-net cable and read up on the coding section.

Where did you get an FSC code, what is an FSC code, how much and what ethernet port did you plug into, do you have a write-up or know the URL to know how to perform the coding section, what software/hardware is needed?

Don't bother, I paid about $180 for the code and $40 for the cable because other sources were $350.

Now there is a group buy on Bimmer Tech for $199 all in, all done, they send you the cable and do the coding via remote, that is the way to go.
