Very nice car. Reaffirms my view that M-Sport is the only way to go with the F30. I just had a loaner F30 328xi with standard suspension and was let down. No steering feel, wheel too thin and steering too light, brakes were too soft, suspension was a bit too floppy. It still drove and handled great, but was clearly a softer car than my softest and heaviest of them all E93 335i.

Very nice review, thanks!

One small correction...

Sport mode: when the lever is to the left but no manual gear changes have been made using the lever or the paddles (you will see the various gears show up on the dash board indicator as S1, S3, S3, etc. with S standing for Sport mode).

The S1, S3, S3, etc. only show up if you have the Sport Auto. If you have just the regular 8AT, it just says "DS" while in Sport mode, without providing the specific gear info.

My 2014 335i without Sports Auto option shows S1 S2 etc....

Then keep an eye on your review where you mention Sport mode affecting the handling. It only affects throttle sensitivity and steering. DHP is required for Sport mode to change the handling.

"However, putting the car into "Sport" mode largely addresses my concerns doing so makes the steering discernibly tighter, and the suspension corresponding stiffens and imparts more information to the driver."

Its not the same way as in the old models? On my 09 on the dash if I'm in regular drive I don't think it shows anything, but if I move it over the left I get the gear numbers that show up.

I can only assume the previous poster is referring to an older model. But I double checked this Saturday afternoon having my post above in mind and I can confirm when I move the shift lever to the left into manual mode my car shows the S1, S2 etc gear on the dash cluster.

I do not have the Sport Auto option with paddle shifters, just standard auto.

Hmmm....what does Sport Auto get you then?

A software change that holds the transmission in gear for both up and downshifts.

I certainly believe you know what your car shows, but this is contrary to other info on the forums.

I have a Sport Auto Sport line and get the S1, S2... etc. However, when I drive a "no line" dealer loaner F30, I only get the DS mode indication.

By the way, Sport Auto also gets you a different shifter with a leather boot.

I think Sport Auto is worth the $500.

I have a 2014 MY, so perhaps there has been a change, but I have checked it twice and trust me it shows S1 S2 etc on mine.

Right... I assumed (maybe wrongly) OP knew that and was just asking what was different about the transmission itself.

I believe you. I am now curious too as to who gets what now. Do you have a Sport line also?

Kind of a weak review IMO. I appreciate the effort but you clearly have a lot of time on your hands.

I hate the body roll on this car, especially M Sports with x drive. There cannot be an aftermarket option for this fast enough.

Otherwise, I really enjoy the car. That's my review.
