I thought the car has central/remote locking from the factory. You have a blown brake light. Read the hand book. If you didn't get one with the car - e-bay.

When my brake light went out it said TAIL LIGHT, when ever i got BRAKE LT CIRCUIT, it was the brake switch i cleaned it but eventually it came back. I replaced the switch and no warning for a month now. You can get a remote off ebay for it if need be and program it. My car though has an aftermarket Clifford. But the wiring is a pain. Who ever installed it did a crap job. I did my best to fix it but i still only unlocks my gas cap, it does not lock it. But is locks/unlocks everything else.

remote locking

Thanks for the replies, when i bought the car it only came with one key and not being overly familiar with these i thought it easier just to buy a new unit which was off ebay and it stated that it was for the E34 or E39 but the wiring block is different and the wires are a different colur than they are on the car, nothing easy eh!! with regard to the BRAKE LT CIRCUIT i don't have a brake light out, where is the switch that you've mentioned? With the central locking is it possible to get a remote key from BMW

The brake light switch is at the top of brake panel, once you remove the driver side kick panel, you'll see it. It's a pain to get it out though.
