Mein Auto: 2005 X5
2005 X5 without air suspension??

Vehicle info:
2005 X5 3.0i, Manual Transmission, about 96K miles.

I am working on replacing the rear upper control arm and rear ball joints on my 2005 X5. I had the famous inside of the tires wearing big time. I was surprised when I started tearing it apart to find coil springs in the rear instead of air bags.

I looked online and see they make kits. I just bought this used about 5 months ago. To be honest I was looking for an 04 to avoid the air suspension, but compressing the springs to replace the rear ball joints is a major pain in the @#$.

So two questions. One could the inside tire wear be due to a poor conversion from air to springs? Second did they make any 2005 X5 without air suspensions. If it was a conversion who ever did it had the computer updated it looks like since I don't have any warning lights.

Also if anyone has any tricks for compressing the springs I would love to hear about that.

Thanks in advance.

The answer to that question is as close as the part database:

BTW, you can help us to help you better if you add WHICH X5 you have...there are 3 different models for the 2005 model year here in the USA....which means different engines, transmissions, option pkgs, etc:
