JUST BOUGHT SOME NEW WHEELS need a little help with tires

Hey guys I just bought my first pair of wheels...ever. I need a little help though. I never had to purchase tires because I'm only 18 and this is my first car. What are the best "decent" tires for a good price? Here's my specs Click image for larger version

I've only "roughed this out" but the '06 325i came with either a 205/55R16 or 225/45R17 originally...both in the range of 632 - 634mm in diameter. Checking the European tire specs for an 18" tire with similar diameter I come up with a 255/35R18 (635mm). This is quite wide and I'm not sure if you'll have rubbing problems or suspension interference.

The other issue with this size is that it requires a minimum 8.5" rim width (European tyre standards)...you've purchased 8.0" wide (rims).

In checking size 245/40R18, its diameter is more than 3% taller than the original 325i fitment; outside of the acceptable range IMO (in Europe they usually adhere to 1% of the original tire's diameter for "plus" fitments).

I've noted over the years that many people usually purchase "plus wheels" (and incorrect wheels), prior to figuring out the correct tire fitment first.

See what Tire Rack comes up with after you give them your wheel specs. Aside from not rubbing, being suitable for the rim width, any potential 18" fitment will have to be "close" in diameter to the original tires for this model and meet the load carrying capacity of the original tires (load index 91 IIRC).

I should have told you in my first reply that you can enter your vehicle information on tire racks website for recommended tires and larger size tires. Here is what I got for the base model 325i.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...SortCode=54100

You can re-enter the information if your car has the sports package. But it is still best to call and talk to a tire tech prior to purchasing.

I am confused. Has the company you bought the wheels from not shipped them to you yet? If so pick a set of tires and have them mounted on the wheels balanced then ship them to you.

I should have told you in my first reply that you can enter your vehicle information on tire racks website for recommended tires and larger size tires. Here is what I got for the base model 325i 18" staggered set. 46 sets of tires to choose from.

It was a spontaneous buy. I only bought rims did NOT buy tires yet

Then am I correct in assuming you now have two sets of wheels?

If so you could have a set of winter tires and wheels and a set of high performance tires and wheels for the rest of the year.

If you need new tires now it might be best to wait until spring to get staggered tires for the new rims.

You could get a set of winter tires (BMW recommended for temperatures below 45 degrees) for the old rims now.

Let us know what your plans are.

Ps. These are a real nice all-season tire set. That is if your only going to have one set of tires year round?
