Weird Acceleration lurching?

2006 E90 325i
6-spd RWD non-sport
Only modification is charcoal filter cut from airbox

My car does a weird sort of power cut when I'm driving more "spiritedly." As the revs go up fine but then it sort of feels as though it opens up even more when i hit the higher revs, maybe 4500-5k? Is this normal? The powerband does not seem linear or smooth?

I cut the carbon filter out in the hopes that it would help but it did not. Any input is appreciated. TIA!!!

You may very well be experiencing a detonation issue and bumping up against the knock sensor and the spark retard that that triggers from the ECU. Are you using premium fuel? Do you have software mods?

100% premium gas always
Not a single modification other than removing the charcoal filter. I bought used in february so idk about previous owner.

It doesnt have any knock or anything. It had a misfire a couple months ago, replaced all plugs and 2 broken coil packs. It did this weird non-linear power thing before then and after then though.

Its like its retarding power and then opening all up at higher revs

Re: Weird Acceleration lurching?

Start with the basic stuff...vacuum leak.. Check the throttle boot and hoses..take spark plugs out clean them and put them back...it could be the vanos seals starting to go bad...but start with the simple stuff first...

no strange idle. no noise at idle or running. Plugs are brand new within 1.5k miles.

Maybe i'm just not explaining whats happening well enough. Idk how else to articulate it.

everything is fine and smooth. all the u pthrough the power band. at 4500-5k it feels like an extra boost of power.
