here is the question, after around 5-10 mins of driving i get a warning chime. Its 3 short chimes and only 3. No warning lights of any other indication of a problem. Any ideas?

Uh-oh. That's the "Loose nuts behind the steering wheel" warning .... do you get any Check Control messages if you press the right hand button on the instrument cluster?

May be the speed alarm setting. Go to set on monitor and hit, look for speed alarm.

Always a loose nut behind the wheel. Did toggle thru the warnng screen wth nothing showing and it is not the speed warning. it goes off on the freeway ans well in stop and go traffic at different speeds. It also only happens once per start up.

Transient aberrant electrical warning gong impulse. Notoriously difficult to isolate. Solution - if your cluster is good with all pixels working, and you are confident that the check control is working - disconnect the gong.

Check the time on the car then try getting on it at the 59th minute. If it does the three beeps every time on the 59th it means you enabled the setting on the computer (I forgot the name - have to check on my car). It beeps 15 seconds to the hour. First time I enabled it I had no clue what it was and when it beeped I thought there was something wrong with the car. After reading the manual I learned it was the 15 seconds to the hour alarm. :-)

Ditto tsmvp: sounds like the HOUR MEMO is set.

Again, if the 3 "beep, beep, beep" sound is occuring at approx 15 sec before the top of the hour...this is your HOUR MEMO feature. There's also an icon that will be illuminated on the nav screen or MID.

The HOUR MEMO gong is the first "3 beeps" sound you hear when you do OBC TEST 13 (allows you to check the sounds of the car's gong):

Since you have no model year/build date listed...nor which system you have in your car...I don't know which instructions to post as to how to turn it off or explain how to get to it.

Hour Memo icon on the MID (icon is to the right of the "12:20PM")

Hour Memo icon on wide screen NAV (icon is @ bottom center of screen to the right of the "4:45 PM")

Re: kinda stupid question

Btw...the only stupid question is the one not asked....if you've researched a question and cant find the answer...someone on here is more than likely to have had the problem u described or has heard of it and a possible solution..lots of knowledgeable people on here..always willing to help...this is by far the better of the bmw sites...

Good luck with finding ur solution..

Thanks for the feedback. Q may not always be right, but when he is, it's usually all the time!

Get an Owner's handbook and read it. I got one for my E30 on e-bay. There are always others.
