Question Sirius/XM Installed at factory but not Programmed

I been searching the threads but I don't quite see the answer I'm looking for.

I found out today that my 2010 335d has a Sirius radio but it doesn't show up in idrive or anywhere else. The dealer quoted me $600 to activate this but it seems quite expensive considering the hardware is already there. They told me it was for the activation code and programming time only.

Why would this not have been programmed for my car if it was installed at the factory in the first place?

I think it is because you need a license (code). Search for Bimmer-Tech on these forums. They will do it for much cheaper.

I get the code requirement but why is there no hint that the radio is even there in my idrive? I should be able to activate this radio myself as you do with portable radios. $600 is too pricey, even for Howard.

the average cost from the dealer is about 475, so you 600 is high. Bimmer-Tech will do it for much less. The cost is on their website.
