TFS Vs. Dinan Upgrades

I have been told TFS is superior to Dinan.

I asked this question hidden in another thread, so I decided to move it here. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Car is question is a bone-stock 96,000 mile 525i

Thanks!!!!

I think he means TMS, meaning the Turner.

I only have experience with BavAuto and Turner. Night and day. TMS all the way.

Unfortunately there are quite a few performance chips which are superior to the Dinan software.

TMS
E.A.T
Racing Dynamics
BMP
BAV
Wolf (haven't heard if he's still making chips. His site is down)
SuperChip
W.A.R. chip

And possibly a few more. Just can't remember at the moment.

The general issue I've experienced and heard from other Dinan chip owners is that the power curve comes on too late or better said high in the rpm range.
Mine comes on around 3500 or 4000 rpm in my m30 car. Then it pulls through the top of the range.
Also the e34 Dinan software really hasn't change much over the past decade or more.

That said, it's a great entry level performance upgrade. But if you desire true potential from your engine. You need to look at the alternative chips available.

I wish I could put it better (especially since I own and run a Dinan chip) But I can't.

Andy I think your car is the big exception.
I don't know of any other company that has a chip for a m70.
For that's the real issue.

They haven't changed the software on the earlier engines.
Now the m5x, s5x m60/m62, and such probably can get a updated software pack.

So if you got them in bulk, keep what you need and make a profit on the excess chips.

It would be nice to have the power come in lower in the rpm range as opposed to higher...

Thanks for the input. I will research all those sources!!!!

Are all of the above listed 'chips' or 'tuners?'
