Jet cover stolen

Last week as i was getting into my car i noticed a black hole in my bumper right below the right headlamp. Jet cover was missing.Somebody stole it!!!
I go see my local BMW dealer to buy a replacement. I figured easy replacement. WRONG !!!
I'm told they have to order it AND once it arrives it has to be painted. It seems the part comes unpainted. So frustrating.
Now my question what the heck is a jet washer cover? What purpose does it serve? My car does not come equiped with jet washer so why would i have the covers for it? I can understand towing cover but jet washer??

Jet cover stolen

Sorry to hear about your trouble. Just wondering how much did they charge you for that cover? With paint and all

You have jet covers with no jets? That is very strange.

The "jet washer cover" is the cover plate for the retractable headlight washers. They come standard on 328 xDrive coupes, or come with the cold weather package on RWD 328 coupes.

You're in Montreal without the cold weather package (heated seats)?

Yes, and I have no complaints about it. I also have no interest in having this discussion - I was mostly interested in why you're bringing this up in a "jet cover stolen" thread.

The cover attaches to the washer jet spray nozzle....you have washer jets.

I believe they only turn on with the headlight switch set to auto and when you pull the stalk for windshield washer fluid, the headlight jets will come out. They only work with headlights on.

They only fire if the headlights are on, but it doesn't matter if you're in "Auto", "Parking" or "On". On my car, they fire with every third use of the windshield washers.

I had my tow hook cover stolen a month back. I had a similar requirement to order the part and then have it painted. I was really annoyed shelling out $50 to get it fixed but was assured that the piece can NOT come loose-- it needs to be pried off. I was skeptical until I saw the re-installation procedure.

I can't imagine what I would do if I saw someone fiddling with my front bumper with a screwdriver in a parking lot.

This. People think they've been stolen but more commonly if they come up at highway speed they can get detached pretty easily from the washer nozzle itself and fly off.

"My car randomly sheds pieces as it drives down the highway."

There's a sales pitch for you!

Superglue!

I lost two tow hook covers in a 2 month span and thought they were being stolen. So the third one I secured with just a drop of superglue and it's been holding tight for several months now. FWIW; my dealer paid for one replacement and I paid for the other.
