From behind i assume.. like every other bimmer?

thats normally how they do it..

it should twist off.. and the socket will have the bulb in it

and or the socket might pull away and the bulb will remain with a metal clip for the h2 bulb types

Always from behind. BMW haven't done front access in 20 years. Check the owner's manual for the detailed instructions.

- Look straight at the light housing and see if there's a small opening/gap on top (12 o'clock) between light housing and the fog light trim.
- if so, use a plastic wedge piece to unclip the trim through that opening. Then, remove trim from bumper (NOTE: There are 4 retaining hooks on the back of the trim, 12/3/6/9 o'clocks...try not to damage those).
- Remove the 3-4 exposed screws.
- remove the fog lamp (try pushing it inwards a little bit, first).

If you don't see opening at location mentioned:
- use plastic wedge and carefully force a gap between housing and trim.
- be careful not to break the housing trims (these are at 1/5/7/11 o'clocks)
- remove the exposed screws
- push lamp inward a bit and pull out.

well heres the thing:

on the front of the my bumper on the fog lights there is a cover with a small hole on it. i stuck a screwdriver in there but there is not bolt ..... so then i tried gently pulling off the cover but it seems like something is holding it. i ultimately wanna know if i can do anything before trying to remove the front bumper ( which i have no idea to do )

That's b/c the trim is held on by that clip! I mentioned in step #2 that you needed to unhook the clip (push up or down). The fog lamp is held on by screws, which is covered by the trim...once the trim is removed then you will see the screws. Have fun.
