Mein Auto: I wish it was a Bimmer
I Switched Out My Auto Shift Knob

I liked everything about my 328's interior, except that the majority of the trim was walnut and the shifter was chrome.

I found a great deal on a walnut auto shift knob through Concord BMW's eBay site. Snagged it for under $100.

I think it really ties the interior together, and it also feels a bit smaller than the chrome shifter. It fits my palm better.

I was looking at that one but from the pics it looked like the leather was grey, not black, and I wasn't sure how it would look. From your pics above it looks grey. Is it the lighting? What color would you say the non-wood parts are?

I ended up getting the performance version. It has an even bigger chrome head but I really liked how it turned out.

It is just a hair lighter than the black leather, maybe because I haven't put any leather conditioner on it.

The walnut center is just a touch lighter than the trim. But it's close enough to my eye to not take away from the overall look.

I'm also contemplating the all leather shifter that I found in the Bavarian Auto catalog. I'm going to use the walnut shifter for a bit and see how I feel about it long term.

I got it and the boot from Amazon.com. Still waiting on the boot to arrive, but i got the knob yesterday and installation was a breeze.

Today I bit the bullet and got the e-brake handle and boot to match from BMW-Mini of South Atlanta. I guess if there wasn't enough silver inside the car before, there is now...

I am still waiting on the boot to arrive but I did get it. I read about installation of the knob and boot on the web, and that hard yank I read about was not as hard as I expected it to be. It actually came out very easy, which was surprising.

I'll post pics of the installed knob after the boot arrives.

If you want a walnut shifter from a 1980's era 3 series. Just did a search. Lowest price was $97. Most expensive $197.

I'm hanging on to the original shifter, in case I want to revert back to stock. Thanks for the offer.

And thanks for the sidetrack on the performance shifter. Great that it works for you and in your car. I wanted the walnut. That's what I put in.

Walnut is for grandpa.

The "performance" shifter looks cool though.

Walnut looks just fine to me. It matches the rest of my interior trim. It even looks great with all the M badges all over my 328xi MSport.

It's personal preference. You put what you like in your car. I'll put what I like in mine.
