New car can't check oil level??

I was playing around in my car tonight getting all of my presets done and when i went to check my oil level it said that this function wasn't available and to check with my service dept?? I am wondering if its because the car is still too new and that function isn't available yet? I don't recall my 535 being like this.

That's strange, although I do know that now you have to be stationary to do it....or at least I think that's what I remember.

You need to be stationary, but the engine needs to be warm. Manual says you should drive at least 6 miles before getting a reading.

Mine worked right away. The Engine Oil Level displays "level ok". As far as the oil level measurement, it displays the message about the car having to be in park or neutral and the engine must be at operating temperature before you can click the Start Measurement process.
Maybe a bad sensor or loose connection?

maybe an early production " delete" as was the suspension issue. Just Joking , probably a loose wire. Your car looks mean, it is outstanding!

I was idling in the car for awhile so not sure if the car thinks its not at operating temp or maybe it thought the car was parked at an angle. I will check it out again tonight.

Sorry to some of the responders, but normal "procedural" instruction messages wouldn't say to see the service dept. OP, of course you should be able to check the oil, even when brand new. Time to visit your dealer.

Turns out the car needed to visit the dealer today for this. My SA said there was some bulletin out where my car needed some programming update so all is good now.

When he told me the car might need the full blown software update I told him hells no after what happened last time.

That's funny. I think we were the same build week, i know we were on the same ship and though I could check my oil, a bunch of other stuff was missing from my settings (ventilation, DLR on/off, seat heating adjustments). I don't think your SA was fibbing to you at all. After my visit to the dealer, everything seems to be there now.

Good luck

I've been checking mine while driving. Is that really wrong. I don't get any error codes.
