E90 6-speed auto VS F30 8-speed auto

I've read countless car magazine articles hailing the new F30's 8-speed automatic as one of the best auto's out there, however, I'm looking to get a E90 335i instead and have not heard as great things about the older 6-speed auto. Is the 6-speed auto slow/clunky/not great? Any feedback is greatly appreciated

If you're getting an E90 335, you'll get a ZF 6-speed transmission, regarded pretty much across the board as one of the best in its class. Fast, smooth, and great.

If you're getting and E90 328, you'll get a GM 6-speed transmission, on which there are mixed reviews. I have not driven one often enough to have a subjective opinion of my own.

Yes as in 'merican. BMW has been using GM transmissions for years now.

I've driven all three, and while the GM 6 speed is a good, has an annoying amount of lag from a standstill but otherwise shifts quick enough in DS mode. The ZF 6 speed is much faster but the ZF 8-speed is the best auto I have ever used, it blows the others out of the water, and I don't even like automatics.

I think most of the E90 328 automatic transmissions were built (by GM) in France, although the Monroney sticker for mine built in mid 2011 says Germany.

Thanks for the responses guys, I'm pretty confident with a ZF sourced auto (as I'll be getting a 335i xDrive). Much appreciated
