Allocations?!?

Hello, all. I placed an order with a local deal for a 2014 X5 and am quite excited.

The problem is that almost three weeks later, I still don't have a production number. According to my dealer, they are still waiting on their allocation for X5s. Is this normal? He says he has me on a list that is date stamped, but it sounds odd.

I assume that the allocation issue is specific to this dealer, is that right? I.e. if I went to another dealer, they would have their own allocation to fit it into?

I got a pretty good price from this dealer, but at the same time, I don't want to be waiting forever and I'm wondering if I should be looking elsewhere.

Thanks.

Mein Auto: 2014 X5 xDrive 35i
I put a deposit down with my local dealer a few months ago and I got a production number for my Xdrive35i in late August. I was told that it was for October production but I found out over the weekend that "everything got moved up" and my car went into production last Friday (9/13).

That being said, it doesn't seem that the X5 has completed it's federal certification and the vehicle can't be delivered anyway. I wanted to to Performance Center Delivery, but this can't be scheduled until the federalization is complete. I got this message from my CA:

"Dear [My CA],

Thank you for submitting a Performance Center Delivery reservation for [My name]. Unfortunately, this production number [My Production #] is a new model or new model year and we cannot offer a delivery date at this time. EPA and CARB Certifications are issued by the government and must be obtained for every model every year, regardless of any change (or not) in the production of the vehicle. The vehicle will remain at the VDC/VPC until approvals are all holds have been removed. The vehicle will not ship to The BMW Performance Center or your BMW Retail Center.

Please inform your client that we will contact you with a delivery date as soon as all EPA and CARB Certifications have been received by BMWNA and the Monroney/EPA and Release holds have been removed. Should the client wish to cancel you will need to submit a cancellation form which can be found on CENTERNET.

Please be aware, BMW Manufacturing will not offer public tours effective April 29, 2013. We expect public tours to resume early summer 2014. A bulletin announcing details about the re-introduction of tours will be released when timeframes are known. If your customer attends on a date when the factory tour is not available, they will receive a certificate at delivery allowing them to schedule a factory tour at a later date, once the public tours resume.

Thank you for your patience!

BMW Performance Center Delivery Team"

Maybe some of the insiders here on Bimmerfest can let us know when they think the cars will be released.
