535i Oil Catch Can

I've been reading that the 535's have a tendency to "carbon up" over time which requires walnut blasting the head. Has anyone installed an oil catch can on their car to try and minimize this issue?
If yes, which one did you put on? Also, how much blow by oil is it picking up? I've seen pricing anywhere from $30-$180 for the catch cans.

The bms occ is the most popular and that's what I have in my ride. I only recently installed mine so I haven't tried emptying it out yet.

I'm debating about buying and installing an OCC - has anyone actually caught anything? Bump?

I bought a universal from ebay 35.00 and a hose bending coil and followed the BMS install. works like a charm and for 1/2 the money. Besides its blue and matches my DCIs. Enough black under the hood.
gotta get the intake wlnut blasted first or it is only catching future oil but the guck still remains on the back of your intake valves.

My BMS catch can has been on for only a few hundred miles so it's too early to tell what it will catch.

It definitely works. I have had one for about 30,000 miles. I wouldn't call myself an aggressive driver but I have emptied it twice just to see if it was catching any oil. The hose going into the can is covered in oil while the hose leading out of the can is bone dry.

I would put some anti-seize lube on the can because it becomes nearly impossible to unscrew the can.

Good advise on the antiseize. I'll do my first "check" in April when I change the oil.

Hey, just saw this post. I have one from BMW installed and its a ok. Installing it on our car is a bit of a PITA. First off, the clamp that comes with the one from BMS is really made for the 3 series and doesnt fit our round strut tower arms. I tried to bend it to fit and risk the chance of breaking it and it still didnt fit. I ended up using two zip ties. I have had it on for about 2k miles and only saw maybe two or three table spoons of oil in it. I had a walnut blasting when I installed it so, I was coming from a clean motor. Sorry, no pics.

If you are running stock you can go awhile before emptying it. Even with me running an aggressive protune after 6 months approx 10k miles there was less then an ounce of oil in my occ. when you install it you will need to trim the back of the engine cover and the occ it self will be at a slight angle to fit between the rear dv and cabin filter tray. Also I'd recommend using a hose clamp on the outlet tubing of the occ to ensure it stays connected.
