What are the thoughts on the 4 series vs the 2013 m3?

Any thoughts do you think the 4 series better value than the 2013 m3

Apples & oranges. Personally if interested in the M3 I would wait for the M4.

On the other hand if it is all the same to you, wait and buy a 4 series. Newer car with a longer warranty and less expensive maintenance. N4S

If you want value you would be asking the same question about a Camry and an Accord. You don't want value, you want ego stroking. Which gives you personally more, the M3 or the 4? That will provide the only possible answer. Otherwise there is no reasonable way to answer your question, because it's like asking 'Which is taller, blue or red?'

Given wave packets of equal energy blue will be "taller" since red is a longer wavelength.

Science.

Now if only we could calculate ego stroking on a scientific level.

Perhaps the unit of ego should be called the "Trump" or just the "Donald".

When looking at wave form "Taller" would generally refer to amplitude rather than wave length. It could however be argued that red light is "wider"

I'd wait for the M2 (or the M235i)...hopefully it will be closer the original M-models, smaller and more nimble, that made the M-brand BMW are currently exploiting...
The F-series M are pretty big cars now, somewhere close to the E39 M5...which wasn't a bad place to be.

Exactly...but I think they're all too big. What new M car is smaller than a five series in the US right now?

M4 is the car to wait for, then obviously the M2. This is one of those instances where bigger isn't necessarily better.

Car & Driver is talking about an M2 as a 2015 coupe only model.

The M2 will be a coupe...the even numbers are coupes, unless it is a Gran Coupe, then it is a sedan-coupe, or soupeTM for short

not a fan of the M2 at all, it looks like the current 135i which looks hideous to me. If I had to choose I think I would pick m4 just because of the newer styling but the e92 m3 is pretty nice also.

I took his post as meaning there will be no convertible models.

Convertibles are a subset of coupes for me.

How very small of you to point out an obvious typo by one of our more astute members. Two wrongous don't make a rightous.

Which leads me to a thought; I'll bet no one has ever used the phrase "How very small of you..." in regard to you in any context whatsoever in your life.

Unfortunately, a lot more than you think and much less often than I'd like. This is one of the reasons I own an M3.

You have ignored that I said "wave packets of equal energy". Since totally energy of a wave packet is the area under the curve a "blue" wave packet would need to be taller (of greater amplitude) to have equal energy to a "red" wave packet.

Of course it was just a way to tease DSX so I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about it.
