What happened to the LTE adapter from BMW?

About a year ago, BMW announced that they would release an LTE adapter that fits in the smartphone slot in the center console. It would provide in-car wifi.

Does anyone know if this ever materialized? When I google it, all I see are the announcements from last year and nothing more. Tischer and other online BMW parts suppliers don't list it.

Thanks.

Seems it launched in Europe in December:

It's listed on the global site:

Maybe not compatible with US LTE spectrum. I haven't kept up with the different spectrum & carriers to know if they could build something you could activate on any carrier.

Maybe they did a survey and found nobody was that interested. I think the only thing this has going for it is the connection to an external antenna. It's bigger and has less battery life that the hotspots you can get from the wireless carriers.

Use an iPhone Hotspot and the OEM cradle and it will be the same - or better- than the OEM LTE WiFi.

Agreed from a technical viewpoint, but I'm on a grandfathered unlimited data plan and they won't activate hot spotting for that. Maybe it's time to bite the bullet and go to a metered data plan in exchange for getting the hotspot.

Thanks.
