Ibex protection plan worth it or not?

I know this has been asked before, but I haven't found any recent threads on it. The dealer is offering me the Ibex surface protection plan for the interior and exterior of the car for $500. It comes with a 7 year warranty. He claims it is their most popular plan and 80% of his customers choose it. I am skeptical, and have heard it's just a money maker for the dealer. Has anyone had personal experience with this plan? Anyone regret getting it or regret not getting it? Also, does it affect the look/feel of the paint or the leather? Right now I'm thinking I'm going to pass on it and just use a good polymer sealer or wax on the vehicle myself. The leather is mocha and the carpet is black with all weather mats, so I'm not too concerned with stains.

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking. Man that finance guy really wanted to sell me on it. Kind of annoying. Ah well.

No. I think so much of that stuff the dealer offers is just money in their pockets. The only thing I think I'm going to get is the extended service warranty as I plan on keeping the car more than 4 years. It covers brakes and so will essentially pay for itself and then some.

I am buying mine new, doesn't come in till next month however I am preparing myself when I pick up the car what the finance person will try to upsell me. I know there is a thread for the tire/rim insurance but i have 18" not 19, and I priced them out on tire rack which was $50 less than BMW. I am still undecided whether to buy it or not since people have also used this warranty for rim repair. I have had over 5 cars paid for in my life and I have never replaced a rim, however I am hearing BMW is different. I don't know what to do! I guess it depends on how much it is, if they give me a price for $1500 for it, I will not get it but if they lower it to like $1200 or $1300 for 5 years maybe? I don't know. lol

I bought mine new as well. It's a 2015 XLine and so it has the upgraded 19" alloy wheels. The insurance still seemed high to me. I've never had to replace a rim either, and have been very happy with Discount Tire Company for my tire service.

How much did they quote you for the insurance?
I don't have Discount Tire around me. I am in NY and the closest is Maryland however I think I can order the tires and have them delivered to a shop like PepBoys or something to replace.??

He quoted me $1299.00 for the tires and wheels. Of course, that doesn't cover when a tire just plain wears out, so....

I see what you mean. Use the money towards the extended warranty and take your chances with tires. I guess BMW drivers tend to drive or hit the curve more than non BMW drivers. lol

Happy_Chrissy: Your X3 will not have low profile tires. I know the roads in NY are terrible, so your mileage may vary, but I don't think it's worth it to get the insurance on the X3. Maybe if you got the 20 inch wheels, the sidewalls would be smallish, but the 18's and even 19's have SUV tires with SUV sized sidewalls.

I know all dealers are different, but during my last three purchases/leases, the finance manager asked me if I was interested in the protection plans, I said no thank you, and that was the end of the discussion, he respected my decision and that was that.

All: Remember that most extended warranty's expire based on the time limit, not the mileage driven, which is how those insurance companies usually make money. When they say 7 years, 100,000 miles, they mean 7 years from the start of the factory warranty, not the end of the factory warranty!

Save your $$. You have never destroyed your tire and rim before and you won't with the 18inch rim and tires.
And even if you did break 1 rim and tire you are still ahead. I know I won't break even with my W&T insurance but I have piece of mind with my 19s.
Like I said before. If I had to do it all over again I probably wouldn't have gotten it. I did use it 2x in the first year but the tires were patchable! BMW won't patch them as they want/force you to buy a new tire.

I do wonder what I will do if I get another nail with 15k miles on a tire. BMW will give me a new tire but the remaining 3tires will be worn down by then which could give transmission issues. I think I'm better off just paying a mom and pop store to just patch the tire out of my own pocket at that point instead of buying 3new tires to match the 1new one I'm getting with the insurance.

Happy Chrissy- please ask that question to the finance guy when he or she tries real hard to push the wheel and tire insurance on you. I would love to know his response.

My wife drove thru some paint while the state was reprinting highway lines after 2 days in the body getting paint off and 2 days of rental car I'm glad I did buy it. Body shop and rental car would have cost me $850 but since I had Ibex on my wife's vehicle it cost me nothing. So if you don't want to buy it take your chances. But usually it will pay for itself the 1st claim you have.

Instead, consider getting something like Lamin-X professionally installed in the front of the vehicle, door wells, and rear bumper.
