Doktor Bert's Frankenstein E34 Restoration:

Many of you have followed the issues with this car, such as the bore-wash induced by a disconnected IAT, bad GM, no remote for the BMW keyless entry, etc. I finally decided to just hold off on any further mechanical/technical work and just concentrate on getting the refinish work completed.

Here are some pics of the refinish process.

Car is prepped by 2 weeks of hand sanding with a long block (rigid) and a soft block with 400 paper. All jambs are backmasked. Final sand is 600 and water. Paint is Glasuit Euro Spec '55 Line' Solvent Borne Basecoat followed by 5 coats of Glasurit Urethane Clear.

Car will be painted this evening and I will post follow images tomorrow...

I think it's going to look good. That dark green always looked nice to my eye when it was clean. The only reason I tackled this 'Mission Impossible' car is the body is super straight. Only the front and rear bumpers had any damage and that was minor.

The grille frame and both bumpers will be painted nest week as they still need some work...

I will pull it out in the sun today. We used retarder in the clear so it would dry slow and flow out. It spent the weekend in the booth drying...

Picked up a 'better' rear bumper from a 91 525i in the junkyard for $25.00. My bumper looked good, but the entire LH corner (through the impact strip area) was made from bondo and it literally fell apart when removed.

Plan is to have the electric fan repaired and front and rear bumpers on the car this week so I can start the repaint on my 2001 Mustang GT...

Wait wtf?

Didn't you just do that killer paint job on your e34?!!

Your already gonna tackle another car!? Geeez..

Im guessing you do or at least have done this for years for a living?

Ive tried, i just cant do it.. I painted for Oakley professionally for a year so i can spray but my surface just never seems prepped quiet right for auto body scenario's..

Every thing else im fine, suuucks.

Ya, I'm largely insane, with a bit of OCD thrown in for good measure.

I have a 2001 Mustang GT that I absolutely love...wanted one when the SN95 body came out in 1999 but couldn't afford one, so this one gets special treatment...i plan on keeping it from now on.

It just rolled up 200,000 miles and still looks, smells and drives like new...

P.S. going to add the Cardinal Red rocker stripe to the otherwise black GT. I think that will really set it apart...
