Now my 2001 Mustang repaint project is MAJOR, with the entire car taken apart and even the glass removed...It had a great paint job to start with, but had a lot of little nicks, chips and door dings, so I wanted to smooth everything out and do it right.

These photos were taken of the basic body prep BEFORE all the glass and door handles were removed....It's a LOT of work.

Now, a word about materials....a very reasonable cost repaint can be done with Acrylic Urethane products from www.tcpglobal.com However, for the best quality, we use ONLY materials specified and approved by Rolls-Royce/Aston-Martin/Bentley.

In summary, the materials used define quality and longevity. Here is the run down on the product being used on the Mustang:

The filler used is Evercoat Quantum 1 Epoxy, which deviates from traditional body fillers with a new polyester/epoxy formulation. The primer used is a two-part catalyzed product by Glasurit #285-555 Black HS Primer Filler. The basecoat will be Glasurit 55 Line in conjunction with Glasurit 923-447 HS Scratch-Resistant Clearcoat; both solvent-based products.

NOTE: In the second photo you will see that the factory actually painted the car after the urethane sail pillar mouldings were installed!!!!

BMW E34 After Polish:

A few photos I took Friday afternoon - this is originally a Texas car, but I registered it in Iowa for $11.00/year...

Thanks...I found a 525i being parted out near me, so I might be able to get a GM on the cheap.

Bumpers and grille will need to cure before color sanding and polish...but we are almost done now!

We installed the rear bumper last night, only to discover the plastic bracket on the LR quarter panel (that engages the clamp on the bumper) was broken and has to be replaced. I'm going to try and find one from the junkyard today and make the rear bumper installation final with pics....

Test Fitting Rear Bumper

Snapped these today of the rear bumper test-fitting....PROGRESS!!!!!!!!!

Also, just had all the glass (including the windshield) done in 35% tint...the tint really 'pops' in the last photo, taken BEFORE we color sanded and polished it out, back in October, 2013...

What Goes Into a Bumper?

The rear bumper saga, from the badly damaged original, to Pik-N-Pull replacement...fixing imperfections with epoxy and ZERO bondo, all the prep, block sanding, special two part primers and solvent-based basecoat clearcoat finish, plus color sanding and buffing...almost makes you dread to actually drive it!!!!!

And to think, I'm putting this together for my wife as her daily driver...

You and me both!!!!!

She's a pretty careful driver though, I have to give her credit for that...she has been really careful with our old 300SD. The pic of her standing by the Mercedes was taken in 2004. The pic of us at Christmas was taken in 2009 and the last pic was taken in 2012.

Got the back bumper on tonight, along with the correct rubber gasket between bumper and body, impact strips. marker lamps and all. I will post photos in the morning...Here is the last shot we took just before dark. You can see the bumper-to-body gasket clearly in this photo...

Thanks, man...

It's been a HUGE paint in the drain....having to find a better 'junk' bumper 1/2 way through the job, then having to find the broken side clamp brackets...now I am facing the same problem on the front bumper - we didn't notice the ENTIRE inner brace/clamp is MISSING from one side of the completely refinished front bumper, so I will have to find one and epoxy it in place, since all the melt-over plastic tabs are broken.

Now to find a good pair of tan front door panels, a tan rear seat lower half and I should be in business!!!!!

P.S. we discovered that as the car changed hands (in non-running condition) someone began swapping in their 'junk' relays, modules, control units for the working ones out of this car, which is why we have had so many pitfalls along the way...

True! But it's been hard trying to dig up all these little things...I've received some big help from a BMW Buddy in Singapore, but I haven't had much luck with finding the tan front door panels and lower rear seat half...
