Does anyone name their car?

2 weeks ago my girlfriend got a 2008 G37S from the used car tent sale and traded in her 2004 Mazda 3 aka Reece. Since then she has been debating what to name her car. In the mean time, I purchased a 2008 335i last Saturday and my girlfriend suggest that we name our cars together.

She kept saying that her car is for sure a girl and she wanted me to pick if mine was a boy or a girl... (at this point I am rolling my eyes). So I thought I would make a joke... I told her, that we should see who's dipstick is longer and that would determine which car is the guy. And that mine should be a girl because it would be weird if a guy refers to his car as a guy... it defies the laws of the universe.

We get to her house and I pop my hood and she opens hers and pulls the dipstick out and comes over to me as I'm looking around trying to find the thing. At this point all of you know that I'm not going to find a dipstick because there isn't one haha. So yeah... I say to her that this proves my point that my car is a girl.

Then she proceeds to argue that her car has a girl that speaks to you when you press the button on the steering wheel and I think to myself... "Oh I'm for sure going to win this!" To my surprise, I press the button and a guy starts talking to me through the speakers....

At this point I decided that our cars are confused about their sexuality (Because she has a dipstick and a girls voice, and I don't have a stick and a mans voice) and so I thought we should name them gender neutral names like Alex or Jordan or Sam and she doesn't agree.

So the debate continues, at least until I can change the guys voice to a girls in my car and then my will be 100% girl and I can name her Helina.

Anyone else run into this problem?

Does anyone name their car?

I think this is being way overthought.

Yes I do name my cars though.

Nah! I'm not into that naming stuff.
I own 4 cars and just call them car 1, car 2, car 3, and car 4.
A car is not a he nor a she, just machine that you drive, but in the case of my 335i it's an ultimate driving machine.

Does anyone name their car?

I only named one of my cars to date and it was based off its model name. It was a 1982 Isuzu I-Mark diesel...called her suzu or Suzie depending upon my mood.

Which sparks my interest in discussing with the wife naming our GT...I'm thinking Geeves like ask Jeeves.

I found your naming story humorous, your gf's car is a hermaphrodite! Perhaps a drag queen name for hers?

We (wife and I) just use shortened versions of their given name. The manufacturer already went to great lengths to name them. We just shorten the name they were born with. Kind of like calling somebody named "William" by the name "Bill." We call the Z4, the "Z." We call the 335, the "Coupe." We call her Lexus RX350, the "RX."

I only name my car when it does something other than what I want it to.

In that case, the name temporarily becomes "piece of ****".

Wink Naming my car.

This task has been reserved by my girl. She named my last car Abu after the monkey from Aladdin she has yet to pick a name for my bimmer. It will probably be something Disney based

I named my F-10 loaner 'R2-D2' because it was always 'bleeping' at me with its 'back-up' radar (or whatever you call it). A very noisey cockpit. My F-30 doesn't have it and will let me hit walls in silence.

Too funny! All of these have me cracking up.
I really want to name mine Helina, but I can't do it knowing that every time I push that button, a guy is going to start talking to me... There has got to be a way I can fix this!

Hang on...they changed the voice-activation prompts to a male voice? When did that happen?

ROFL! That is hilarious! My navigation works, but it takes forever and a day for me to be able to input it. He never understands what I'm trying to say. Maybe it's just user error....

Ah. I had it backwards--for some reason I thought you had an F30. Mine's an '11 and female, so the change must have arrived with the 4th gen iDrive.

At least you can give your next one a girl's name.
