Question hard to streer, any input?

I recently bought a 97 328i BMW, it was love at first sight. But I noticed yesterday that my steering wheel is making it extremely hard to park and or turn. I know BMW's are known for being a lil bit harder to steer but this just started and wasn't any near this bad a few days ago. There is no unusual noises just giving my arms the workout of a life time! Anyone have any idea what this might be?

My best guess would be the power steering pump. A couple of quick things you could check though. First check the power steering reservoir for fluid, and also check to see if you are missing a belt. If your car is alternator/power steering belt and its gone you are likely to have a dead battery soon. My belt broke on my old car once and caused me to lose power steering (which is what it sounds like is going on with your car).

yeah, check to see the belt is still maintaining proper tension, fluid level, as well as fluid condition. it should be red.

not brown.

*definately* not grey or black.

No, you got it right. I just "flushed" my steering system a week or two ago by pulling the old fluid out with a glorified turkey baster (actually a battery acid remover), and filling it back up with fresh fluid, running the engine for two minutes, turning steering wheel from lock to lock, shutting it down, and then repeating this process until I had gone through two quarts of ATF. The fluid was still coming out pretty dark after two quarts and I was getting grumpy...

let me rephrase that,......i need to inquire about how that aftermarket rack and pinion steering gear is workingout, or if he is still awaiting delivery.....
