How do the Angel Eyes work?

I'm hoping someone in the more popular E90 forum can help me out. My searching/researching tells me that the E90 and E63 Angel Eye setup is similar. I'm running a 2008 E63 LCI.

I was all set to order a replacement set of bulbs, but realized that both "rings" are illuminated from the same bulb. So, logically, the bulb shouldn't be my problem.

The problem is the same on driver and passenger sides. I am also getting a DRL error unless the headlights are on.

Any ideas on where I should start?

Phil

What bulbs did you replace the oem ones with?

All plug and play bulbs for the E92, e90 LCI, e82, E60, E63 etc will have a brighter inner ring and a dimmer outer ring. It's just how the light rods are designed. One allows more light to travel through to the rings than the other.

If you have LEDs in there, make sure they are positioned correctly. Some will need to be installed a certain way so the LEDs are facing the face of the light rods.

I replaced them with H8's and the error went away -- and both halos worked. Thanks for the help!
