Mein Auto: 2009 M3 & 2010 335i Coupe
2009 M3 Coupe DCT gear noise

I have a 2009 M3 Coupe DCT & 2010 335i 6pd automatic. The M3's gear is noisy when shifting at low speed. Furthermore, it's shifter is awkward to use. In Oct 2013 Car and Driver's comparo article on MB CLS63 AMG vs. BMW M6 Gran Coupe and Audi RS7, the author wrote the following comments on M6's DCT shifter, which is the same as M3:

"We're not so charmed by the tumorous shifter that makes rotary knobs and column-mounted stalks look ingenious. It transforms basic tasks - such as three-point turns, shifting from neutral to drive, and engaging park - into challenges"

I did some research on how BMW's DCT compares to Porsche's PDK. Surprisingly, most praises DCT over PDK. Now I am at total loss about the state of automatic double clutch technology. If DCT is as awkward as described in Card and Driver, I can't imagine how bad Porsche's PDK is?

Nonetheless, my real question on this posting is if I can retrofit my M3's shifter with 2011 335is's DCT shifter, which in my opinion is a much nice one than tjose use by BMW's M models.

I have no idea about retrofits but I would pay 10k to have DCT put on my m5 I just got

I would advise you to look into a DCT tune from BPM or ESS before doing anything like that.

Make sure you have the right settings as different settings can cause different things

5bars + sport +sport aggressive + mdm = money for me.
