I'm out of the E46 game...

...and into this bad boy:

Just kidding.

I've actually gone into secret ///M territory in a car that's not so ///M-looking.

As many of you know, I was in a car accident back on July 1. It totaled my car out and a certain insurance company has tried dicking me over in more ways than one. To keep it short, I ended up filing a claim through my own insurance company and will let them do the whole subrogation thing so they can get their money back (and my $500 deductible back!). I took the money and bought a car. The end.

Now... onto the detailed story...

I went two months without a car. I had to carpool with my girlfriend in her 2003 VW Golf 2.0 and a friend of mine (fortunately) let me borrow his 1996 Mustang V6 base package (manual windows, manual locks, manual transmission with a dying clutch... but it was still a car!). I ended up filing the claim through my insurance company and got a check in... three days? (Props to State Farm for being awesome.) I then took the money and bought a 1991 BMW 318is.

Yep. I bought a 22-year-old car.

It needs some restoration, but the previous owner had 99% of the parts that go back in the car; he just didn't have time to install them. I'll be doing what I can as time goes on to make it look new again.

"Why in the hell did you buy a 22-year-old car? And why did you buy a weak little 318is?"

Well... it's the 318is LOL JK package (see picture).

It's different than a plain old 318is. The LOL JK package has the following options:

S52B32 Engine and Transmission from an E36 M3
Turner Motorsports Equal Length Headers
Conforti Shark Injector Software
21.5 lb. "Pink Top" Injectors
Custom Mandrel Bent 3" Exhaust w/Magnaflow Muffler
H&R Sport Springs
Bilstein Sport Shocks
M50 Intake Manifold w/KA Motors Intake
2.93 Limited Slip Differential
13.7:1 Steering Rack; 3 Turns Lock-to-Lock
Weighs just over 2,400 lbs.
Estimated 260 WHP.
Black headliner (genuine, not sprayed or dyed).
14" basket weave wheels with 195/65/14 tires all the way around.

With those numbers, it comes out to ~9.23 lbs./HP. So it's fast. It's really fast. I just need some wider rubber in the rear because first and second gear can be kind of iffy.

I'll take more pictures later on, but I'll be at 4ngiefest for sure.

Planned mods include:

Projector headlights with 5000K HIDs.
New paint job (got a serious hookup on the price).
16" or 17" wheels with at least 225 square setup OR 225 fronts and 245 rears.
New front bumper (current one has some serious cracks in the plastic).
New hood; considering M3 hood.
New seats or get current seats recovered.
Momo flat-bottom steering wheel.

I'd love to boost it, but everything I've just listed is going to cost me an arm and a leg already. I'll be knocking these things out bit by bit and it will definitely take a couple years to get it done, but the end result will be a damn good looking E30 I'll probably keep for a long while.

Who knows? Maybe an E46 M3 will be in my future if this whole job thing pans out...

Is this the same car that was leaking water all over the place on one of your runs?

Sweet ride. At least you don't have to worry about the timing belt.

I miss my E30.....

It is, actually. It has a new radiator and new radiator hoses, so no worries there. It has Besian VANOS seals and a welded oil pump nut, so that's even less I have to worry about.

Congrats on the new ride. Had two E30's including a 91 318is that went to well past 200k miles with me then sold. No engine swap, but the E30 rocks. Period. Enjoy it.

More pics? Maybe hold off on the paint. "Patina" can be cool.

Great choice! I had been looking into getting an E30 with an S50/52 swap. That is a beast of a ride.

318is E30 chassis are also light and stiff with all the suspension, bushings and joint goodies.

I made this one a few days ago. Traffic (on the closed course) was stupid and people wouldn't let me over. Yes... closed course...

That was roughly 65-70% throttle.

I'll try to make a better one this evening.

I need some kind of GoPro mount so it's not so damn shaky. The steering wheel is SUPER thin, so it's hard to keep a good grasp on the camera (phone) at the same time.

The video I posted yesterday was recorded several days ago. Don't get me wrong... I'd love to drive this car as much as possible, but my schedule just doesn't allow it. You know... responsibilities and what not.
