vanos valve solenoid for 335i?

Ok, so I drop off my car at the dealer to do an oil change($89.95) and do a diagnostic check($200) for the waste gate and turbo. Found out that the turbos were replaced March of 2012. They found some faulty codes and 1 of them were the vanos valve solenoid needed to be replaced and they want to charge $964. My question is how much does the part cost and how much would I expect to pay an indy to do the job?

WTF !!! Run from this dealer. The vanos solenoid is about $200 and takes less then 30 minutes to change. On top of this, most of them don't even require replacing these days, they can just be cleaned.

$110 at getbmwparts.com. There are two of them. Did they say both need replaced? Replacing both of them would take a tech no more than 20 minutes. They are easily accessible. One electrical connector, one bolt, then pull straight out. Most shops will attempt to clean them before replacing them especially if you don't have symptoms.

thanks for the replies. They didn't say if both or just one needed to be replaced. I will pick up the car tomorrow and maybe have them cleaned if there are any symptoms in the future or have them replace by an indy.

Each of them has their own code. One is for the intake Vanos and one is for the exhaust.

Beyond easy DIY. Do not pay for someone else to do this. The hardest part is waiting for your engine to cool down so you don't burn your fingers off
