Does the inside of your X3 get crazy hot?

Hi guys. Just bought a 2011 X3 for my wife. It's Black Sapphire and black interior. We tinted the windows the first week we bought it, about 35% all the way around.

But, with temps rising, the car seems to retain heat like no other car I've ever owned. My E63 had 30% tint with black leather, but never got this hot inside.

My back sticks to the seat almost every time. Is it because the leather has no ventilation? Do you guys experience this?

Are you sure it has the real leather interior and not the fake leather? People who have gone with the fake leather have noted that the only thing they don't like about it is the fact that they sweat.

It's got nav, convenience package, camera, pano roof, everything. Is it possible it still might be leatherette?

We drove a leatherette car, and it seems real vs. that.

What type of tint was applied? I have 30% front and 20% rear wincos tint that reject ALOT of the UV rays that causes heat. And you will notice a big difference when parking and driving it. I don't even need to pull up the rear shade for my son anymore. When sitting in the car you are able to see out without any issues. It's amazing the new technology in window tint. I have the cinnamon interior.

But of course if it's 105 outside. If parked outside long enough the inside will eventually also get 105.

Leather is only part of the premium package. You can also get it as a separate option

So unless you have premium or went fur the standalone option, you wouldn't have it.

If you want to post a picture I can let you know for sure just by looking at it. It would have been part of the premium package back in 2011.

The first summer I had it I noticed that my 2011 X3 gets a lot hotter than my wife's e90 or my old 2006 X3. However, my new one is black and my last one was silver. That makes a difference. AC on auto at 70 seems to cool things well.

I would also wonder if it's "fake leather". We had this on the MINI Cooper and it doesn't breathe at all - you just stick and sweat to it. Not fun on hot days.

You can use a VIN decoder site such as http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html to tell you what you have based on the last 7 digits of your VIN. Check the Upholstery line for "Leder".

We put on ceramic tint which does a lot better job at heat rejection than dyed film. Still, it's a bit warmer on a space gray on black leather vs my other car which is white on black. Bmw Aircon is also a bit weaker than Audi, but at least you get the benefit of being able to set a timer to parked car ventilation boa idrive

Does the passenger seat have 4 way lumbar support? If it does, then its real leather.

I find it odd that an all black vehicle would get hot in the warm weather. I wonder why that could be.

Of course a black interior will get hot in the summer, but my X3's black interior is no hotter than any other vehicle I have owed with black interior.

Responding to the original question, I can't say that my X3 is any hotter than any other vehicle I've owned. I do agree that the leather is cooler than the vinyl.

Our blue water metallic with oyster leather interior and normal factory tinting is much cooler than any other vehicle we have owned. I like the looks of the black interior but will have to reconsider that following your experience.

I also assume you have turned the thumbwheel between the two centre air vents toward blue (colder).

Very odd indeed. My cousin's friend has a black X3 with black interior and it never seems to get hot. I wonder if the fact that he lives in northern Norway and only drives it in the winter could be a factor?

I think it's time to get those people the support they need - how about we call this BCA - short for Black Car Anonymous?
