iDrive radio goes mute/SOS light on

Hi everyone, my iPhone 5 has paired with my iDrive just fine. Then, recently, the radio occasionally mutes (iDrive and all display stays on), the green SOS light stays on for a second or two, and after about 10-15 seconds the radio sounds comes back on. The sound cuts out no matter if there is a CD, radio, or iPod AUX attached. It's VERY annoying. I just tried last night to pair my phone and now my phone says that the BMW is unavailable...despite the fact that the iDrive says it is now ready to be paired. Brought it to an independent dealer for a few things and they did a hard reset of iDrive but nothing changed. HELP please

Have your TCU unit checked out. TCU handles bluetooth and BMW Assist functions in your car.

This is one of the units on the MOST loop and if it malfunctions or hangs, all systems on the MOST loop hang and reboot if necessary. Your head unit is also on the MOST loop if you have a TCU equipped in your car. From what you described, it sounds like the TCU is hanging and causing the MOST loop to hang. Assuming you have the L7 audio system, the L7 amp is also on the MOST loop and will hang/restart if there is an issue with the MOST loop. The head unit normally resumes normal operation once the MOST loop is complete, it rarely restarts unless there is a complete interruption in the loop, ie a physical break in the fiber optic cabling.
