non lci 2008 328i to lci 2009 328i verification

Ok. I have read countless post on the subject. But I was backed into at walmart last Friday and need a need bumper and hood. I just want to verify that all I need to do is tell my body man to order my bumper, grills and hood for a 2008 328i sedan to get the LCI look on my 08 328i sedan? Just want to verify before I tell him to order the parts. I'm ready to get rid of the Hitler stache from my hood! Thank you for your help

I would venture to guess that the way the hood and bumper fasten to an LCI might be different than on a non-LCI. That is, I would be hesitant to order an LCI bumper (or hood) for a non LCI car when fitment has not first been verified.

You said you read countless post on the topic. Is there a post that explain and shows that there are no fitment issues between a non LCI car and LCI parts?

There are lots of people that have put LCI front bumper and hood on a pre LCI car to get rid of that ridiculous Hitler mustache on there hoods. Just want to make sure the 2009 328i sedan bumper and hood is what I need to purchase

You have fallen for the "newer is better" schtick my friend. The E90 was a bold design statement with linear "slash" elements. The original "pre-LCI" (or as I call it, the "real") E90 design theme was all about angular lines and sweeping arcs.

The LCI "facelift" was an attempt to make the car look more like previous "oval faced" BMWs. The hood has an extra set of creases that clutter it as far as I'm concerned and those two oval nostrils had to be cut into the previously clean lines of the original linear arced hood.

(I do think that eliminating the clear reverse lens on the Pre-LCI tail lights cleans up the back end and I have considered changing them.)

So keep your "Hitler" remarks to yourself.

(Besides I think it looks more like Guy Fox.)

To each is own my friend. You like the pre lci and I do not. I do like the look and design of the lci models. So when I found out I can install the lci bumper and hood on my car I was overjoyed. I also happen to love the lci hood. I think it give the car a much more aggressive look. So my question still remains...

2009 was the first year of the LCI.

And yes, your car will look better.

The year should not matter as long as it is LCI. I believe no changes to the bumper or hood occurred after the LCI upgrade. If you have confirmation that it fits any model year should work.

No problem. Looks are subjective.

If you plan on selling the car any time soon, one thing you may want to consider is that having the front of the car not correct for the year is likely to make it more obvious that the car has been in an accident. Not to mention that it won't match the back.

Also, even if I liked the LCI better, as a guy who knows what a 2008 328i should look like, I would be put off by the "incorrect" body panels.

Most people are looking for a "factory correct" car.

The factory bumper will be kept and repaired for that reason. It just cracked the paint up on the bumper and put a very fixable dent in the notch in between the grills. The hood is just a little rippled and he said he could fix that also. I will keep it as well and repair it over time.

But I don't disagree with you. That's why I'm keeping the original parts.

Can somebody please post two pics side by side, one of a pre-LCI and the other LCI? I've got to see the difference for myself to make any sense of this topic.

Call me old fashioned but I vote pre-Lci, Lci has too many crease lines and those wing mirrors are too boxy looking. But to each their own.

As to the LCI, I think the extra lines on the hood are too busy and the oval nostrils break up the arcing lines of the front end. It does give it a more "traditional" BMW face. But I liked the radical "flame surface" look of the E90 design and the "mustache" front end represents it better.

I think the Pre-LCI clear reverse lights are jarring and I have thought about getting red ones to "even out" the look of the back end.

Of course the two cars don't really look all that different. Until I bought a 2006 325i this past year I don't think I ever noticed the difference.

So it's kind'a funny that it is still a topic of contention so many years after the LCI changes.

It's like the differences between the 1969 and 1970 Mustang. Both have essentially the same body, with changes to the front and rear similar to the Pre-LCI and LCI E90, but people have very strong opinions why they like one or the other better.
