Question e46 power goes out

Help please... I have a 2003 330ci... in the past year or so, I have had sporadic power loss that would occur while I was slowing down or at a stop. The radio would cut out and a couple of lights would flash on the dashboard. The tripometer, radio, and clock would be wiped out and I would have to reset all. After this would occur, the car would drive like normal.

Within the past 4 weeks, it has become worse. About 4 weeks ago, I had no warning and parked my car to get dinner; when I got to my car- it would not start. Nothing would come on. Within 20 minutes of getting into my car- it started. About 2 weeks ago, I was stopping for a red light, and I had the power loss, a couple of warning lights flashed, I turned my engine off. It would not start again. Nothing would come on ! The car was towed to a safe location and about 1 hour later, the car started on its own. After speaking to my mechanic, he has no idea of what is happening.

This evening (2x) while slowing down the car lost power/remained on but nothing was wiped out.

Any ideas/suggestions ?

Need to check all your battery connections along with the + cable from the trunk to the drug bin to the starter motor to the back of the alternator. Also check your engine ground strap for solid connections.

Ignition switch may be causing this too.

This ^- check all the connections. Your engine ground strap grounds the engine to the chassis, by the front passenger wheel, behind the A/c compressor.

You could also fiddle with the ignition switch when it happens to see if it resolves quicker, then you've found it if it does.

Yes +1 to checking connections. Especially at fuse panel and the other end at the battery. Not sure if the E46s had junction boxes but those modules control power supply from the battery to many accessories and vital components in the car. It's located right under the fuse panel
