Saw the F15 in real life

on the dealer's lot and I must say I am NOT impressed. We've been awaiting one for a year and considered purchasing it but now I don't think I would shell out 80k on something that weird looking. The side and back are OK (nothing special just OK), but the front-end is one big puzzle

I like the aggressiveness of it but the fog lamps are way too high and the front-end just looks plain horrible from the side. Like a pig's nose. Shame on BMW to say the least. As we were walking back to our F10, we passed by the current 3-series... another disaster on the front-end. Every time I see one on the road from the front I think to myself: WTF. The front slopes down in a very weird fashion on both the 3 and the new X5.

One word: disaster.

I don't know if this has to do with some nonsensical and bureaucratic EU pedestrian safety regulations that I've heard about but this is not EU and we don't have to put up with this BS (and the F10's front-end is awesome so that's probably not it). If they start making ugly cars, people will just go away. Why make that mistake?

REAL PICTURES POSTED FEW POSTS DOWN

I said to my wife 6 months ago: "Wanna get the X5 in case BMW f^&* it all up?", "No they won't" was her reply.

Well.. they did. Hope their sales plummet. Same goes for the 3er. My 10 yr old MDX seems to look better

well, most likely it will not plummet. Most people won,t tell the difference between E70 and F15. We BMW junkies will spent hours discussing every little detail on a new model, but general public does not give a flying f.....
They /BMW/ made ride more refined, interior more luxurious and that will be enough for vast majority of BMW customers.

i think you're right actually... my wife who really wanted the x5 for herself said she is cool with the new look, like you said, most don't give a flying f^&* LOL. To me that front is disgusting. Not worth $80k.

I agree that the F15 X5 could use some work, especially with the fog lights and the "hey, let's let the grille touch the headlights". However, you guys are nuts if you think the new Range Rover Sport looks good. It's plain ugly. "Hey, our crazy Kia-Soul-esque car we call the Evoque is selling well, let's make our entire fleet a variation on the Evoque!!"

I guess everyone has their own feelings on things.

Yeap. I too feel that BMW really did f**k up the F15 (and F30) design just like they did on the E65 when it first came out. Well, I bought my 13 X5d in June right after the F15 was introduced.

BTW, what's up with the rendered image that you posted?

To OP, how can you claim this is a real life shot when it clearly is labeled as a rendering?

Because I was too lazy to copy the pics from my cell phone. C'mon you doubters LOL.

Here.... the front - from the front - looks sharp, aggressive and all (except that weird-looking center air intake).... But from the side... fugly.

I agree with yogi and this is exactly why I ordered a new e70 last December. Glad I did. I'm keeping mine and if I don't the next SUV will be a Cayenne GTS.

Nobody says the interior sucks.... Quite the opposite. But the exterior matters...

As long as the exterior doesn't look cheap like Lexus or Acura, I'm fine with it.

i drove a 3.5i yesterday. It left me cold. I have a 2009 3.5d and there was nothing about the F15 that made me feel like I have to or even want to upgrade. Yes, there are new toys, but the package was very familiar and, to me, not enticing. Maybe it will grow on me, only time will tell.

Was it quieter inside? That is the biggest gripe I had with the E70.

I saw one live on Thursday at the dealer. I was in a bit of a rush, but I did spend some time looking at the exterior. My initial reaction is that the side and rear view aren't as bad as I thought they would be, but it does have two huge flaws IMO. I don't know what you call it, but the piece on the top rear hatch lid is strange.. I can't explain it really, but it just looks too large and out of place. More troubling, the front grille is hideous, I was hoping the renderings just made it look that way, but it was equally bad in person. It is way too tall and looks like a Buick almost...really jacked up that front profile.

I will have to spend some time long at the interior when I have more time. That seems promising, but it will be hard to make up for the exterior flaws.

At the dealer getting a new tire. They have 3 of these on the showroom floor. Sorry, but I do not like the F15 at all.
