close! The Music looks to play music only...only frees up the USB port. The Media has what's included in the Music adapter, with the addition of Cover Artwork. The Connect has the same functionality as Media, but I assume also supports enhanced integration (BMW Apps, etc).

^^ This, plus Connect works with NBT while the (incoming) Media will work with CIC.

No I have a real Media adapter for 5. I bought it in Germany. Now I'm going to sell it since I need the Connect version for my NBT.

That's what the bulletin says, NBT needs the connect version regardless of option code. To be more precise it says media/connect so I assume they mean media for 4/4S and connect for 5/5S (no mention of a connect for 4/4S)

Re: Anyone with iphone media snap-in adapter?

Not really confusing if you read the bulletin carefully. The connect adapter is only for NBT headunit. If you have CIC you need the music/media version for the 5/5S.

If anyone has the same complaint outlined in my original post, I found a workaround but it requires jailbreaking the phone. A free app on Cydia called NoLockscreen. Installed it and it rid me of the lockscreen altogether. Now BMW connected starts automatically every time I get in the car. No need to open the armrest and manually unlock the phone.

I just installed the iPhone 5 Connect version in my NBT car and it works great! I get album art on my music, phone stays fairly cool. I can't imagine any other functionality that the future Music/Media adapter would add for NBT cars.

Re: Anyone with iphone media snap-in adapter?

So I finally pull the plug on the media adapter and it works as intended except my phone's battery is dead every morning when I enter the car (phone permanently resides in armrest)! No idea how but the adapter seems to be draining my battery. I am usually listening to Aupeo when I lock the car. Had no such problem when phone was connected to the USB port with the white cable. Any ideas?

- Media Snap-in Adapter = CIC iDrive-only = features:
  • Charging of the device
  • Secure and stable docking location
  • Vehicle specific mount
  • Improved reception by connecting to the vehicle’s external antenna
  • Integrated USB connection which negates the need for a separate audio cable
  • Access to the music tracks stored on the Smartphone
  • Display of “cover art”. With “cover art”, the applicable song’s original album cover will be displayed on the central information display.

- Connect Snap-in Adapter = NBT iDrive only = The Connect Snap-in Adapter includes the same features as the Media Snap-in Adapter.

Just picked up the iPhone 5 media snap in today ($250 version). The items that don't seem to work: email (still) and video. I contacted customer relations to see if I was missing something and they confirmed that video was not yet supported, but BMW was "working on it". Not sure if it was worth it, but its nice to not have the phone sloshing around the car.

I still keep a 160G ipod plugged into the USB drive at all times. That never comes out except to update playlist every once in a while.

Anyone with iphone media snap-in adapter?

Just ordered the adapter for my iPhone 5S (the $250 version).

Curious: will the phone work with the adapter if it has the Apple case on it? Or, does the phone need to be case-free to snap in? Thanks.
