Heated seats not that hot?

Yesterday was my first opportunity to use my heated seats on a cool day. It was raining and the temps were in the 50s. I put my seat on high and I was disappointed in the temperature. I've been in cars where the highest setting is almost too hot, however, in my car, I forgot the seat was even on after awhile. I can't imagine a situation where I would ever need the lower two settings.

Do others have this same feedback or could mine perhaps be faulty?

Thanks,
Kristi

My seats get uncomfortably hot when the outside temperature is ~55F (detached garage, so the X1 is at ambient temp) to me in about 3 minutes at full power. That said, my wife will put hers on just about any day its cooler than 75 and leave it on until we get out of the car. And she'll do this wearing long pants, woolen socks, a shirt and a sweater while I'm getting hot wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

So, perhaps your mileage will vary?

Try it again... should be plenty hot. Got my X1 a few months ago and have used heated sears a bunch of times and they get very hot. They are the quickest/best car seat heaters I have ever had (had Nissan, Volvo & Audi before).

mine get decently warm, but not as hot as the seats in my mini used to get. they are definitely serviceable though.

Mine get very hot and do it quickly. They're much better than my Audi Q5

Seats get nowhere near as hot as our 2009 128i. The F30s I have driven seem to have the same lower powered heaters as the X1.

128 gets too hot for me but not my wife. X1 is adequate for us but we live in a warm climate.

Saw this thread and I had never tried mine out before so thought it give it a go with winter coming around. Within about 2 minutes on max power it was already uncomfortably hot for me. My wife had a cooper S and they were probably the hottest on MaxI've experienced but these were not far behind.

It seems there is a fairly big divide between the "plenty hot" and the "not hot" people...so I wonder if the difference is sport seats vs standard seats, or leather vs synthetic?

I've got sport-cow seats.

My sport seats seem plenty hot (only used them once so far, hasn't been cold enough).

Thanks for the input. I would never use the words "plenty hot" about my seats, so I will have them checked at my first service. Heated seats were something I've been looking forward to in my next car for years!

I have non-sport leather seats.

Yes, mine work great. Considering the car is outdoors in the Winter, they gave been thoroughly tested. LOL.

I do have a question about the heated steering wheel. Is yours evenly heated? My left side at the 7 o'clock position isn't as warm as the right side, in fact it is just slightly warm. Anyone comment please? Thx

I think that much depends on your point of reference in regards to the temp of the heated seats. I came from a 2012 Mini S and the Mini seats on high were definately hotter, but that's not to say that my X1, Msport seats are not nice and warm on high also, just not as hot at that position as the Mini was.

Heated seats not that hot?

I have the sport leather seats and they get really hot to me on max setting. I always use the lowest setting even in freezing temperatures. It's my first car with heated seats so I have nothing to compare it to.

M sport leather and it gets very hot, had Minis and while these may not get to the skin scorching level like those they are good and seem to actually heat more of the seat. Generally leaving on high is too hot

Heated seats not that hot?

It goes down to below 30F here in nyc now where even when you're already inside the car and exhale, you can still see your breath. Even with that cold weather, on max setting mine gets uncomfortably hot in about 3 mins. Have to place the setting to the least hot or even turn it off warming the seat. The heated steering wheel however does not heat that much and evenly for me. I guess coz there's only one setting. Still really glad i got it because i hate blasting the heater just to warm the cabin.

My steering wheel is pretty even in warmth but I park my car in a garage (not heated garage) and I live in Vancouver, BC where it doesnt get as cold as many places in Canada. The heated seats gets too uncomfortably hot at max in less than 5mins. In fact when I first start the car the heated seats heat up waay faster than the general heating system in the car but thats probably because that has more surface area to cover. I love the heated steering wheel, as a woman my hands are always cold!

I have leather sports seats. They don't warm up as quickly, nor do they get as hot as my 2011 328i which also has leather sports seats.

My 2012 JCW Mini heated seats get plenty hot however my brand new 2014 X1 with he sport seats don't even come close. The hot setting on the X1 is almost equal to the lowest setting on the Mini. Will try them again today (i only have under 200miles on the X1)

My seats get plenty hot for me, they just don't warm up fast enough. Its that first blast of cold on my back that I can't stand before the warming starts. I wish they had a "remote-on" for that feature so when you got in they would be pre-warmed.
The heated steering wheel gets almost too hot to hold on to. I turn that off pretty quick.

my 2013 X1's heated seats are not as hot as those from my 2004 X3 for sure, on the other hand, my x3 had burn through leather and then my pants when i was driving in NYC for once though...no kidding, the dealer had to replace the seat leather and some other parts inside for me. So compare to that, you might not want to complain not enough hot too much.

My MINI has the lounge leather seats and they heat up rather quickly, which is nice (maybe because it is a cabrio?). My X1 just takes a bit longer and isn't nearly as hot but after sitting in it a while they work just fine now (i was impatient).
