Hello,
I have a 2009 328i and noticed that on my radio that the display does not indicate the artist
of the song playing. This has just occured last week as it has been working up until then. when playing my i pod it shows the song list of my selections. must be some adjustment but I have not been able to find any information in the owners manual. all displays on the radio work with exception of showing the artist playing. Thanks in advance for your assistance

Check the document in this post, you have to go into a special maintenance menu and you can check if RDS is on or off - there is not a normal button or menu to do this

Hello,
thanks for all the replies to my radio concern, made several adjustment with no luck. have a spare key using the spare the radio worked showing the artist in the radio display?
using the original key radio does not show artist in the display, not sure what has happened? as noted in several threads the radios have several issues as well as mine with fading displaies as well as sound quality. anyone know of a good replacment radio that will take place of current and cause no problems? how about radio, and installation from local best buy?
thanks for all your assistance Rob your information was very helpful and is appreicated.

Each key fob can store personal settings.

Each key fob can store personal settings.
Including Radio settings.
Adjust the one you want to change with it in the key fob slot in the dash.
When you turn the car off they should be stored .
Do you have comfort access or the regular key?
You have no idea of what a can of worms you will open when trying to change the head unit.
If you change the head unit and you have bluetooth , pdc , Sos, ipod or cdc these items are
separate modules in early e90's and you are detaching them from the car, as the Head Unit
acts as a server and/or connection point for them. (see pdf for entertainment system)
Also if you ever need to get the car repaired at a dealer the car must be in the original configuration
for the BMW diagnostic computer to write new software values to the car or to replaced modules
that needs software . (this includes having the OEM radio in place)
Aftermarket head units are possible if you mount the original radio somewhere else in the car at the very least you
need to hang on to it if you need a repair then remount it if you go to a BMW dealer.
Most average car stereo shops have no idea how to modify a BMW stereo system but if you are interested
there is an entire forum devoted to it here.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=27
Most on this board choose to upgrade the speakers and amplifiers.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=641323

about comfort access
Comfort Access

"Also available for the first time on a BMW in this class is Comfort Access. All cars receive a newly designed key that replaces the conventional blade-type key but with Comfort Access the key contains an ID Sensor that the car recognises from a short distance away. On recognition, the doors are unlocked automatically and the car can be started with one push of the starter button. The Comfort Access system also works in tandem with BMW's familiar key memory system to ensure that the seating position, door mirrors, personalised air conditioning settings and radio reception are automatically adjusted to the current drivers' settings before they enter the car.

Walking up to his BMW properly locked and secured, all the driver has to do with Comfort Access is pull the door handle in order to open the door. Then, as he is taking his seat at the wheel, the Personal Profile functions serve to adjust, say, the driver's seating position, the automatic air conditioning and the radio station according to the driver's personal requirements.

Over and above these three functions, Car & Key Memory (CKM) also sets the interior and exterior mirrors, the central locking and interior lights, the audio system sound effects and, in a car appropriately equipped, the presentation on the Control Display as well as the voice entry setting.

Once the driver is ready to go, he simply presses the start/stop button. Once he has reached his destination, in turn, he presses the same button to switch off the engine. Then, placing his finger on the marked surface on the door handle after getting out and closing the door, he automatically locks and secures the car without requiring any further action. If he has forgotton the ID sensor in the car the doors will not lock and the driver will receive an appropriate warning. And should the electronic key control system ever fail to operate, the driver can insert the ID sensor into a slot in the instrument panel in order to drive the car just as conveniently the "conventional" way."

I think the normal key stores these settings to.

Personal Profile
The "Personal profile" systems allows the driver to set several functions of the BMW 3
Series to suit his/her personal requirements.
Personal profile stores the data entered by the driver such as automatic setting of the
outside mirrors or speed-dependent volume in the corresponding control units.
As soon as the vehicle is unlocked using the remote control, the system recognizes the
corresponding settings belonging to the remote control.
Up to three different basic settings can be adapted for three different persons. The
precondition is that each of the three persons has his/her own remote control. The BMW
3 Series caters for the driver's personal requirements.
Note: Up to three different basic settings can be adapted for three different
personalizations.

I would try this start the car with the key that is working take away from the car stick the key that's not
working in the key slot turn off the car . Turn the car back on an see if the settings were transfered
to the key your unhappy with. If you have a regular key and not comfort access this won't work .
If you have a regular key setup the car they way you want with the offending key in the car and
see if the values get written by turning the car off then starting the car up again.

Also the radio and idrive are seperate manuals.

Also the radio and idrive are seperate manuals from the car manual.
Do you have a copy and do you have the normal rado or the nav/idrive?
