Power Steering Fluid Flush?

I saw a nice thread written up by roseng last year and I plan to do this sometime in December when the school quarter is over. My question is how many quarts or liters of power steering fluid does the dynamic drive/power steering hold?

Hi 07 E63650i,

I forgot I wrote that one up.

http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...light=pentosin

3 changes over 2 weeks and it looked like new oil after a week of driving. Total cost about $70.00.

I bought the Pentosin at NAPA. They had it in stock locally too.

Wish I had remembered that post. Indy charged me $220 for the flush. Only question is where did you take the old fluid for recycling? Most places only take engine oil which is one of the reasons I stopped doing most fluid changes myself and just have it done.

I put in the new cans and my town has recycling days and they will take paint and oil products.

Thanks Gary. I figured that buying about three liters for flushing is way cheaper than an Indy.

It would be a good time to inspect the bottom of the reservoir for leaks. The hoses tend to get brittle on the bottom connection of the reservoir, & start to weep oil. You can cut the hose for a tighter fit, & replace the factory hose clamp as a preventative measure. The 3 cans of fluid should be plenty to do the flush. A turkey baster works great for removing the fluid.

Good Luck!

Good looking out Herb. Will do this when that time comes around. Thanks again!

I just flushed mine and purchased the Pentosin CHF 11S at my Local NAPA. It was $21.00 a quart. Napa was the only place in north east ohio I could purchase it besides the dealership.

Not to be repetitive....but I just posted this thought I'd copy it here. Pep Boys near me also started carrying 11S fluid as well.

BTW - The reservoir is also the filter for the system. I did a flush or two and the fluid looked better but not clean. Next time anyone does this I suggest also replacing the filter/reservoir. Once I did this the fluid looked clear and green even now months later.

This says $84 but I don't think I paid that much. The other nice thing is you really get a good drain on the system. It's a little more work but worth it. I did the coolant reservoir at the same time since it is right there.

I agree with Mulchman. I replaced my reservoir while searching for my Dynamic Drive problem. This was the only way I could eliminate the filter being clogged causing my problem. I think I purchased it for around 56.00. The cost for the reservoir is cheap, to help eliminate problems down the road!

Good Luck!
