Photo Help: What Parts Am I Missing In This Pic?

Car spent 2 weeks at the dealer with engine problems. Now it smells like gas everytime that I get in. I went to look under the hood and guess what I saw. I think there is like half dozen missing plastic covers. Can someone tell me exactly what's missing in these pics.

Thanks

You should post the year and model of your car. I am not familiar with that engine, but from the pics it seems that you are at least missing the plastic engine cover. Others that have the same cars will provide more details.

I just Google 2011 BMW 2011 335I engine, clicked on "images" and got dozens of photos of your engine covers, or I should say your missing engine covers.

If you smell gasoline, take your car back and take the service manager for a leisurely drive and let him smell it.

missing at least the plastic valve covers and your cowl cover with the air filtration system! The missing cowl is probably why your smelling the petrol, but who really knows with that shoddy of work being done. I would be furious if my car was given back to me in that shape. That's pathetic, I'm sorry you have been subjected to that. Get ahold of the dealer first thing Monday, there are several other parts missing in there as well. I'm not familiar with the top appearance on the N55, but I can definitely tell there is more missing than what I stated....good lord...

That's what I thought, valve and cowl covers, but just wanted to see if anyone saw anything else.

This dealership is sooooo f'ing bad it's simply unbelievable. Car has been a complete piece of **** over the last 3 years and the dealership servicing has been even worse. Over my dead f'ing body am I ever buying another BMW and this dealership can f'ing burn to ground. The only thing that I'm happy about is that the lease is over within a month. After that, they can all go f'k themselves. Can you tell how far past the point of frustrated I am.

Yep past livid at this point as well. I simply cannot understand what kind of a moron that was working on the car puts it back together and looks at the engine bay and says to himself, "yep that looks right and ready to go back to the customer!".

Ok fine whatever, closed the hood and didn't notice. But how about those two huge f'ing piece of plastic left next to the car bay when the car is removed and returned to me.

Ok ok fine didn't even notice them then, maybe they were on a shelf. But a f'ing month later and no one notices these two huge pieces missing to call me and say "hey really sorry we forgot the covers, please come back so we can put them on".

Do they really think this is acceptable!!!

Ohhh and by the way, it has been like this nearly every single time that the car has been there:
Returned not fixed.
Returned dirty and covered in crap every single time.
Numerous visits for the same problem.
Reset BOTH seat memory settings on several occasions. (Battery not pulled, everything else fine).

I am forgetting stuff at this point, but every time that they touch they car, they f--k something up and nearly every time it requires a return visit. I should have a f'ing seat in the waiting area named after me.

Going to stop in on Monday. Can't wait to hear these bullsh-t excuses.

Ok now I am done

Hope the lease is with the same dealership that services the car. At least they'll have a record that they worked on the car.

These guys deserve all the pain and misery you can send their way. Informing BMW NA was a great idea. Another is to ask them (call the NA customer service line, on the web site) whether they can send you a service satisfaction survey for that dealership visit (if you haven't already received the email request). Giving a dealer bottom marks on that survey has real consequences.

"MIssing covers" is an understatement--they returned your car half-assembled. Without even comparing to my own engine bay I can see you are missing at least:
  • Ignition coil cover (the "TwinPower Turbo" trim piece over the front of the valve cover)
  • Brake fluid reservoir cover (left (driver's side) rear)
  • Electronics box cover (right rear)
  • Cabin air microfilter lower housing
  • Microfilter upper housing w/microfilter
The missing microfilter is positively why you smell gasoline. Notice those two gaping rectangular holes at the base of the windshield, through which you can see the wiper linkages? That's your fresh air intake. There may be more amiss...you really shouldn't smell raw fuel even when the filter is absent.

If you can, avoid driving the car except back to the dealer. You want to avoid getting leaves and other crap down into the HVAC ducts and blower where it could eventually decompose and cause foul odors (and be potentially expensive to clean out).

Thank you very much!! I literally got your post as I was at the dealer. A few UNpleasantries later and all the covers are installed. Everyone just stood there scratching their heads as to why it was missing the parts. Hopefully some tech is going to have a very unpleasant afternoon.

Thanks guys.

Nothing really, just said sorry. I meant what were they going to say. It's obviously a huge f-- up. I called the service manager and discussed it with him. Now hopefully he does something about it on his end.
