Custom X5 E53 is now part of the family

On Friday we added one sweet X5 to our family. It comes to us already customized on the exterior and interior, but not much under the hood. It's still fresh for being an 01' 4.4 with just under 48K miles. It's stock now, but that's where we will start in the spring. In the meantime we'll be adding to the audio department and possibly update the headliner to match the alcantara in the seats. We'll keep you posted. Enjoy!

Nice color.
I have a 3-spoke sport steering wheel in very good condition with airbag if you're interested in swapping out that dated 4-spoke steering wheel.

Well the damn inspection dude called out a few things to be fixed believe it or not. According to him I need to replace both belts (Alternator/Waterpump Belt & A/C Compressor Belt), both valve cover gaskets, right front cv boot, a fog light bulb, and a damn nail in the right rear tire. Altogether he wanted to charge me $2200+. On his quote he was a rip off on the parts and on his labor he wanted 7 hours to replace the right front axle assembly. I figured I could knock out the belts and the fog light bulb myself. Dude wanted to charge $95 labor for the fog light bulb. He's a joker to the max. I'm a little sketchy for the valve cover gaskets, but I'll research the web looking for advice/instructions. Definitely going to find another shop to swap out the axle assembly. I'll order the parts from owmbimmerparts.com since they are having a fall special on almost all parts. Keep you posted.

Well parts arrived today from oembimmerparts.com with free shipping. I went with the aftermarket axle assembly considering it won't be the last time we'll have a ripped boot considering the plus size wheels and tires. I read the inspection dudes quote wrong (but he is still expensive). He wanted 4 hours+ on the axle assembly and 7 hours+ on the valve cover gaskets! I'm including pictures of his quote if anybody wants to comment on it. If you want the invoice on the parts let me know and I'll put it up also. Now I'm just waiting on the hand tools I ordered to knock out the belt job. I found a few good links with instructions for the valve cover gaskets. I'm starting to feel brave. More to come. Thanks!

Took care of the fog lights. On removing to cover ring, pulling on the notch on the upper inside of the ring worked best. For removing the whole housing with the bulb I utilized my girlfriend and her dainty hands to get in there and pull. Worked like a charm. My hands were to big.

Got the front axle assembly installed yesterday. $185 for the labor, part was $95 online. Today I replaced both the alternator and AC belts. Belts were $18 each online. Now I just have to decide if I am going to tackle the the valve cover gaskets.

About 3 hours. I wasted a half hour trying to line up the water pump pulley locking tool. I spent more time worrying about the damn paint on the bumper when leaving over the top.

After doing it once, I'm ready to do the same on my 740's. Everything would be the same. You might knock it out faster, it's just the way I learn. But more importantly You'll have more money in your pocket afterwards.
