M3 Weight

I have not found the unladen weight of 3,704 lbs in the manual to be too informative as to what my M3 DCT ZCP actually weighs. So, today I took my car down to the truck scales to be weighed. With a quarter tank of BP 93 octane fuel, the car weighed 3,499 lbs. YMMV

M3 Weight

205 pounds off?

But isn't the weight they report supposedly with another person and 2-3 bags?

:O That's great news! How loaded is your car? That actually changes things in terms of M4. The M4 will weigh just as much as an e92. Wow Indeed.

It is a carbon fiber roofed DCT ZCP car with every option but Automatic High Beams. For clarification, I was not in the car when it was weighed. I wanted to know what the car itself weighed - so adjusting for the fuel onboard, the car weighs 3,476 with oil and trapped fluids.

M3 Weight

The M3 comes standard with auto headlights. This is great news though.

The M4 is 176 lbs lighter than an equally equipped E92. Weight is reported in a myriad of confusing standards so the 80 kg /176 lbs difference reported by BMW is the best comparsion between the two since it is valid across every standard. The 3704 lbs of the E92 is US curb weigth which includes a standardized driver.

That's really not much weight taken off, honestly.

It's not a lot but not insignificant either. For me personally it's a bit of a disappointment. I had hoped for another 100 lbs savings compared to the E92. But hey it's the first time a new M3 weigh less than the car it replaces and it's still close to 1000 lbs lighter than an M5...

I can shave of 100 lbs off my e92 easy. Lighter wheels all around and we're now at M4 weight.

The difference is 176 lbs. You can't achieve that with lighter wheels. Maybe with CF bucket seats, Carbon ceramic brakes and lighter wheels. It will cost a pretty penny though.

I think the weight savings is awesome on the new M3. The fact with some lightweight items the M4 will weigh less then the E36 M3 is awesome. The thing I don't like is the engine note. Its disappointing.

I thought the cars were weighed with 1/2 tank of gas and no driver?

(fleet includes a 2011 E90 M3 in case you were wondering)

Curb Weight = Weight of Car with standard accessories, full fluids, no driver

Unladen EU Weight = Weight of Car with 90% fuel, 68 kg driver, 7 kg cargo

Unladen DIN Weight = Weight of Car with 90% fuel, no driver, no cargo

1 US Gallon = 3.8 liters
Weight of 1 US Gallon of Gasoline = 6.35 pounds (2.87 kg)
Weight of 1 liter of Gasoline = 1.67 pounds (0.76 kg)
