New to BMW coming from Audi

Hey everyone,

I got a 335i a little while ago, coming from an Audi A4.

I just realized that I can't stream music from my phone through Bluetooth, the same phone I used on my Audi.

Does BMW not support media streaming via bluetooth.

My phone is a Galaxy S4.

Maybe not in your year. I have a 2011 that streams audio via Bluetooth.

I have a 2011 and I can play BT audio. You have to enable BT for both phone and audio. Thru iDrive, you click option on your phone then 'configure phone' and make sure both phone and audio are check marked.

Also, I have to repeat those steps after any time I plug my phone into the USB cable.

I will give this a try. I will try anything I can to make it work.

If I can't get it to work it's a major bummer because my wife's Honda has bluetooth streaming I can't imagine it not working on a BMW.

pretty sure that streaming blue tooth audio wasn't yet an option on a 2007 model. This is your best alternative and it works with the iPhone.

oh and here's an old thread I just found confirming this.

Fixes to your audio problems can be found here

BMW has been slow to upgrade there electronics and they make you pay
for every little thing.

If there is a fee I can pay to have bluetooth streaming I'll pay. I should probably check with my local dealer to find out.

Thanks guys

2007 would not have this feature. Neither would a 2007 Honda though.

Good news is that it can be added aftermarket. One possibility is the Dension Gateway 500S BT (link here). I just installed one of these in my 2008 M3 and the streaming Bluetooth works like a champ. I have iDrive, but this also works with the non-iDrive head unit.

Installation is relatively easy if you've done any car stereo work. For my part I just tapped the power to the head unit using some good guides online and then connected up the fiber ring connections. Took me about an hour of which most of it was spent routing cables for the iPod connection and microphone. Having said that, this isn't my first rodeo with aftermarket stereo installation in a car so YMMV

So I have an iPhone and plug into my car and enjoy listening to music that way.

So what is the advantange of streaming music via BT instead of the ipod connector or aux input with an Android, etc.?

This sounds like the way to go. Are you able to control/skip songs using the steering whell controls?

Exactly!! I don't get what all the fuss is about BT streaming. I personally have a 120 Gb Ipod that I leave in the car. Easy to control from the head unit for the most part (non-idrive).

I leave my phone in my pocket and that uses BT to make/receive calls. I would hate to have my phone streaming music wearing down it's battery while I drive. If you do plug in your phone to power, then plug it in the Aux jack as well. I don't get it.

Its my personal preference.

But i don't have music in my phone or like an iPod. I have all my music in a cloud and pay for Google music, I can listen to any music they have without buying an album. Kind of like Pandora, but I get to choose I want to listen to.

Battery going down while I drive is not a concern for me. So, my personal option is Bluetooth streaming.

Not necessarily. It depends on the car's date of manufacture. The Combox (which support BT streaming) was cut in Sept 2010 I believe. My 2011 335, built in April 2010, doesn't support BT streaming.

Typical BMW. They don't make it easy to answer questions with a simple "yes" or "no".
