E93 328i cold start engine misfires?

So, my car is in the shop for the 2nd time in 8k miles for engine misfires on cold start. First time they replaced coilpack on cylinder 6. This time the BMW guided fault finding says that they should reset and monitor the situation, which means do nothing and wait until it happens again. They kept it overnight for a cold start test this AM.

What are the chances this is due to a problem with the VANOS selenoid? Any others experience this? Advice?

This was 3 years ago. Resolution?

I'm having the same problem with my E93 (2008 328i convertible base model, 103K miles: misfires and occasional stalls during cold starts only. Warm starts are flawless. No alarm lights.

My fault reader comes up with fault codes 2A39, 2A16, and 2A1A.

I'm told it could be:

- vacuum leak
- intake connector (bellows)
- either cam shaft sensor
- one or more bad fuel injectors
- bad eccentric shaft sensor

Any suggestions or thoughts are appreciated.
