Passenger Restraint / Airbag Warning

2004 645 with 90K+ miles. Passenger restraint / airbag warning light.

Any feedback on the most common problem that this ends up being? I saw info on a recall on some BMWs re: this error message and wear on a pad tied to the monitor, but I don't see that this recall applies to the 6 series.

Will take it to a shop for an inspection, but am interested to know the most likely issue. Any feedback is appreciated.

I had the same on my car. Reprogrammed the modules using INPA and the error has never come back.

Is this something I can have an independent shop do? Or something I would need to buy something and do myself?

A dead cell in a battery can trigger this fault, I would never had believed it! Diagnostics would help? I had this happen on my 750. The seat pad replacement sensor is around a 1k replacement cost!

Good Luck!

As HerbP mentioned, the battery could very well be the culprit since these cars love to throw phantom errors. Have the battery tested first. If it checks out, most any independent shop worth their salt should be able to reprogram the seat modules. I cannot recall exactly what I did, but I almost think it had something to do with the kind of sensor the control unit was expecting VS the one installed. I have attached my coded tracefiles to this mail, so if you do find someone to help then they will know exactly what to do with them.

Passenger Restraint / Airbag Warning

I had the exact same problem. There is a sensor in the seat belt Buckle and the unit will need to be replaced. Had mine covered by CPO

I'm having the same issue. a quick way to find out some mroe info that i did last nigh is to have a passenger ride in the car without a seat belt. If it chimes telling your passenger to put on a seat belt; the sensor works. if it stops when they put on their seat belt, its not the seat belt sensor.

My sensor works so what can this be. Someone above said they reprogrammed the modules. Now I see he said reprogrammed the seat modules. Does that mean the seat preferences? Where you want you seats?
what the heck does that mean?
