Power Seat Issue - Movable Back Rest Sides

For lack of a better description, I am referring to the movables back rest sides of the power seat that squeeze your sides.

I doubt this is normal operation but since this is my only BMW, I have nothing to compare. When I operate the movable sides while driving, they do not retain their position. Over the coarse of about 30 to 45 seconds they will return to the outer most position. This sounds like a defect to me but the dealer is telling me this is normal. When I pick it up tonight, I will asking them to show me something in the show room that behaves in the same manner and I doubt they can show me.

Has anybody else experienced this seat problem?

I think they inflate to adjust the bolsters. So there is most likely a leak somewhere, either in the pump lines/seals or the bag itself.

It's normal to lose pressure over a couple months but not the same day.

I pumped up the seats and I measured the distance between the seats with a tape measure. The distance at the edge of the seat to the other side at the threads was 26". After 1 minute or so I could see that the side bars were moving apart. The SA who also happened to be the shop Forman for the dealer said he would fix it. Only after the issue was shown to him. I love this car but I'm disappointed by the lack of ownership of problems I have experienced.

The problem has been identified by the dealer.

From the service report, "Found the bags for the bolsters N/G. Also found the valve blocks to maintain pressure for the bolster bag N/G. Replace right side bolster bag"

They are also replacing the Lumbar Support Pump Part # 52-10-7-138-786 which is a special order from Germany.

Can't imagine the cost for this. Warranty is nice.
