DSC Light

Hello All,

I have a problem with my DSC light staying on. I searched finding alot of information. However, each post refers to the trifeca of the DSC light, the brake light, and the ABS light all being on. It seems there is nothing with just the DSC light staying on. I found a nice write up from Bluebee and followed directions to check speed sensors. They all checked out fine. So can anyone help me with:
1. If and how I can check the switch by the cup holders?
2. Is there anyway to check ABS module?
3. Is there something I have missed that can be pointed out to me?

Thank you all for the help

I would start by pulling the codes. Since you got just the DSC light, the issue might be just yaw sensor calibration. Do you really have -95 e39? E39 came to US -96.

Take it to an independent shop and have you Steering Angle Sensor reset or calibrated.

I pulled the code that says: Timeout CAN-ASC1
I cannot find what that means.
From the two responses I have received there is reference to the yaw sensor and the steering angle sensor. To have those reset or calibrated. I they the same thing? Where are they located? Can I restet myself.

No they are two different sensors. You need dealer level diagnostic equipment to calibrate them. However, your issue isin't with either one. Based on that error code there is some issue with CAN-bus. Since you got only one error code I assume that you used some handheld scanner like peake. So what scanner did you use?

You'll need to get the hole car scanned with a proper scanner. You'll might get few more codes.. That code basically says there is a communication error. It could be just that the ABS module is bad or some module is jamming the CAN-bus. Could also be a wiring issue. I recommend you diagnose this issue further to determine the fault before throwing parts at it. If you like to DIY you can get dealer level diagnotic equipment for ~$5-$50, if you got a laptop. You just need to buy the cable. The cable price varies quite a bit depending on does it come with the software or not. The cheapest is vag-com cable that doesn't come with any software. The software can be downloaded for free, but the installation can be bit tricky, if your aren't too computer savvy. For ~$50 you'll get the cable and one click installation software.

Would BMW Carsoft diagnostic software 6.5 + cable be the ticket? Or is there a newer version?

I wouldn't recommend Carsoft. Quite a few have had issues with it.

I had the exact same problem, DSC light only, took it to an independent BMW specialist and mentioned it, they said "Oh you need a new ABS module." I left, did some research, took it back and told them to calibrate the SAS. They looked at me funny, but did it at a cost of $100. The light went off, I have had no problems since, and my DSC and ABS works just like its supposed to. Just my experience.
